I don't know if anyone has any idea what I am talking about or not. I have the actual potholder which I purchased from a sewing shop in Amish country in Ohio. I don't want to take it apart to make a pattern from if I don't have to. It is basically squares folded and tacked at the center and colors alternate by layers to form a star. I really like this pattern and have not found it anywhere. The lady that I purchased from did not share her patterns and would not tell me where I could purchase it. Obviously she makes her $$ from making them and wants as little competition as possible. She was nice about it though and offered to make as many as I wanted. That was not the point. I want to make them myself as gifts. Help! :?:

I had that pattern once, I think it can be purchased from McCall's Patterns in any Joann's fabric store or where they sell patterns to make clothing. It is usually found in the craft section of the book. good Luck, Marge PS I am not sure where my pattern is at the moment.

Thanks, I will try to find it online at the McCall's pattern web site. If it is discontinued I guess I may need to get it from someone who may still have it. At least now I know what I am looking for. Thanks again!

I googled "folded star hot pad pattern" and got several sites. One of them is

Is this what you're looking for? Also, if you ask Amazon they have a book or two on folded fabrics. I have a very old book of folded fabric stuff. It's out there. Keep looking. :D

I decided to look on here tonight and what do I find? Thank you for giving the link to the folded star tutorial. I have had one of these for several years that someone gave me, tried to make one, but never finished it. This tutorial makes it so simple.

I have the pattern in my head. I've sold hundreds of them over the years. It was the first class that I ever took (years before I actually started quilting). It would be easier if you called me. 307 673-4868. If that is not possible, I will try to write it out. Wonderful potholder idea. M

Why can't you use the instructions on that link that Yvonne sent? They are wonderful and with pictures.

I too, was looking for a pattern (free of course) for the folded star pot holder. Well I found this one:
http://www.agirlinparadise.blogspot....html#UHFPnrw1k
and the best thing is that it is in PDF format. Just scroll down a little way & she has the link to the PDF. She gives great instructions. I am making some of the folded star christmas ornaments for christmas & plan to do some of these pot holders next. Hope this helps someone.

Hello Share 54, I must have the best ever publication "Quilting with Folded Star" 1981 by Craft Course Publishers, Walnut, California, 13th edition printed 1985. It has potholders galore, appliance covers, tea cozy, placemat, pinafore, Renaissance Jacket, Bath Boutique Lid Cover (for the toilet that is!), tissue cover, hand towels, sewing machine cover, quilts, child's star vest and a sunflower organizer. Publication is 16 pages long and might be out of circulation now. Let me know if anything in particular takes your fancy.

I must have the best publication ever: "Quilting with Folded Star" by Craft Course Publishers 1981, 13th Edition printed 1985. It has folded stars for potholders galore, appliance covers, placemat, tea cozy, pinafore, Renaissance Jacket, cushions, child's striped vest, bathroom boutique lid cover (for the toilet that is!), tissue cover, quilt, sewing machine cover, sunflower organizer and cushions. Publication is 16 pages long and possibly out of print by now. Once you master the simple folded stars you can make just about anything with them. Let me know if you need anymore ideas.
