Could you amazing quilters out there help me find a good link to find online free quilt patterns, the ones I seem to be finding do not really have good instructions, for example the size of the pattern pieces. all they provide is a one inch tester. I am new quilting learning mostly online and books. Thanks in advance for any help.

I have found many free quilt block patterns on line just by doing a search Of "free quilt patterns" More than I can look at in one day. If it is a certain kind of pattern that you want I would suggest typing it in....such as foundation or Paper piecing. I have enjoyed looking at many of them and have tried some of them also.

I have found many as well but they do not have detailed instructions...such as the size of the squares, triangles. Know what I mean....thanks for replying I appreciate it....

Here are two excellent free block/patterns sources:

Moda's Bakeshop: http://www.modabakeshop.com/

Quilter's Cache: http://www.quilterscache.com/

There are ton's of sources for free patterns ranging from fabric manufacturers' to quilt shops to quilting blogs. Start googling and you will be surprised.

I will also suggest investing in a good quality basic quilt instruction book such as Harriet & Carries Hargrave's Quilter Academy: Volume A -- Freshman Year. This particular book is well written and has a numerous wonderful pictures. A quality guide will help you understand what needs to be done when the a particular set of instructions are not all that great.

I believe if you go the the website for most fabric supplies/ manufacturers (ie: Moda, Kaufman etc...) you will find a free pattern section. Also most online fabric/quilt shops have free quilt patterns. And last, but not least, all the sewing machine companies have some free patterns to entice people to sew/quilt more. Sometimes they're right out in the open with headings such as FREE PATTERNS or FREE BLOCKS and sometimes they're under headings such as CREATIVITY HEADQUARTERS or SEWING IDEAS. Look and you will find!

Quiltville.com is another site with good free patterns. They are for scrap quilts but I'm sure they could be used for non-scrappy as well.
