Looking for help selecting borders....

3 Attachment(s)
I am trying to decide which of three borders would look best. Which do you prefer? (I have played with about 30 different ideas and have it down to these three.) This is a block of the month that I am ready to finish. (I thought perhaps that doing a block of the month would teach me patience. It hasn't. :) )

Thanks for any opinions.

Dina

I like the blue, but you do what you like. Either one would work.

DebraK 10-27-2013 03:08 PM

I like the blue as well.

AliKat 10-27-2013 03:11 PM

I like the red but would like a small inner border of the floral print ... or vice versa.

dakotamaid 10-27-2013 03:11 PM

I'll be different, I love the blue but would add a tiny flange type red insert between the blue and the white. JMT. :)

charsuewilson 10-27-2013 03:16 PM

I like the blue. I'm not a red person, but the red along looks good, too. I don't like the 2 colors together. Maybe a little red plus a blue border would be good.

dunster 10-27-2013 03:20 PM

I like the last option - white, then blue, then red.

frustratedquilter40 10-27-2013 03:28 PM

My first choice would be picture #3 and second choice would be picture #1. Beautiful sampler

kaelynangelfoot 10-27-2013 03:29 PM

I also like option 3 the best. But where is the quilt going? If you are gifting it to a particular person, that might help you make a decision. All three borders look great, so I think its more of a personal taste problem.

It will probably be a charity quilt, but I still want it to look as good as it can.

Thanks, everyone, for your opinions. I haven't made any final decisions yet. Got to sleep on it, at least. :)

I would make a wide white border (background fabric) and bind in either the red or blue.

Tartan 10-27-2013 04:05 PM

I vote for the 3rd picture but any of them would look nice. Pretty blocks!

KSellers 10-27-2013 04:23 PM

I vote for #3

Neesie 10-27-2013 04:28 PM

I love #3! My second choice would be the red. :)

AngeliaNR 10-27-2013 04:32 PM

Beautiful quilt! How about a narrow red with a wider blue outside? The red would act as a "stop" and the blue would then accent the blue in your blocks.

Your blocks always have such clean lines--bravo!

IrishNY 10-27-2013 04:55 PM

I vote for the blue!

nannyrick 10-27-2013 05:12 PM

I like the red. I,m a "love red person", but the blue is pretty too. I,m a big help, right?

DogHouseMom 10-27-2013 05:25 PM

How about a red (or blue) flange, then a narrow cream border, then a wide blue (or red) border.

lockesnest 10-27-2013 06:25 PM

I like the last one.

QuiltnNan 10-27-2013 06:29 PM

i like the third one

Thin red on inside then blue on outside.

I like the red. Makes it "pop".

AudreyB 10-27-2013 07:41 PM

I like #3 though they all look good.

BETTY62 10-27-2013 08:03 PM

I like example #3.

MamaBear61 10-28-2013 03:23 AM

I love red, so I would do a narrow blue (or floral print) and then wider red. I always try to keep my inner border from "touching" in same fabric in the block so it may mean flipping some blocks or moving their placement in the quilt (that is just an OCD thing that I do)

Dina 10-28-2013 04:32 AM

Well, I am leaning towards the third one. My next step is to decide how wide to make each border. Sort of depends on how much fabric I have, as I would like to bind in the same fabric that the last border is.

Thanks for all the input!

This is exactly what I thought!

mighty 10-28-2013 07:21 AM

I really like 3 the best.

I agree with Dunster. It will take more work but I think the third option is the best. It really makes the colors of the quilt pop. Just the red or blue border sort of look dull but with the softer color as the accent, it is what I would choose myself.

jayhawkcat 10-28-2013 08:46 AM

I vote for white, then skinny red flange, then the blue. If you had enough of the floral then, instead of the blue do the floral.
Any way you do it, it looks nice!
Good Luck,
Cat

I really like the combination but might tend to make the red the wider border depending on where I wanted to use the quilt.

AngeliaNR 10-30-2013 08:15 PM

Looking forward to seeing what you do. :)

I agree with dakotamaid.

sewbizgirl 10-31-2013 04:27 AM

Have you tried a smaller border of red, followed by a wider border of blue? Red for 'pop', then blue to calm things down.

nunnyJo 10-31-2013 04:49 AM

love the 3rd one, red a nice touch

Love your quilt and I just had to play with it. Does this appeal?

IF the quilt was for me or someone special, the sample above would be WONDERFUL!!!!

As a donation quilt, I'd go with the only the blue border. The blue border would make the quilt very PRETTY!

Any of the suggested borders you chose will work PERFECTLY!!!

Nan

HillCountryGal 10-31-2013 05:03 AM

Oooooh... Like Gay's idea too!
