Looking For Label Ideas
 

I never label my quilts; however, I find myself having to label a quilt that I am working on and was looking for ideas of how to make up the label. I do not need help with the working as I know what needs to go on the label but for the actual label itself. I am not a fan of my handwriting so I would like to stay away from that option. Any ideas appreciated.

Choose a font you like on your computer. Write/design your label then print it onto your label fabric. Let it sit/cure/dry, then heat set the ink

Tartan, I have done the labeling on the binding on a couple of quilts now, and really like it.I think it adds something special to the quilt. Just be sure to use an iron on interfacing behind the part to be monogrammed. ( I've also thought about doing the same thing for washing instructions :) )

b4 i got my emb machine, i used to trace letters. then i also did counted cross stitch. those are a few more options for you. show us what you decide to do.

Please label your quilts. You may know what they are and who made them, and maybe some other members of your family know, but what about 50 or 100 years from now? No one will remember who you are, who you made the quilt for, or the year it was made. I have quilts that even I can't remember when I made, if it wasn't for the label on the back. Just think, someone will find your quilt (because they will outlast us all) in an antique store 100 years from now and it will have a big price tag because its provenance will be documented. Otherwise it will be used to sop up the oil from under the car then thrown away.

I use that tutorial but I don't print it, and as I do not own an embroidery machine, I just print whatever I want on a piece of paper and sew over through the paper pinned to the binding with a darning foot as if I was free machine quilting. I don't know if you understand what I mean...

I cross stitch my labels on 18-count antique white Aida cloth, using graph paper to help form the lettering, line lengths and line spacing. Once the label is stitched, I add a 1/2" border made of fabric from the top, turn under the raw edge and hand stitch it to the back, toward the bottom.
