I would double think having it machine quilted. There are several ladies here on the board that doe wonderful work; that is not the issue. I had 2 hand pieced quilts from my great grandmother and had them machine quilted and kick my self everytime I get them out that I didn't have them hand quilted. There is also places in Amish country that will handquilt. Just some food for thought.

Count me as another vote for hand-quilting. Also, since you are friends, it might be important to her that YOU are the one who quilts it. Meaning, it could be adding even more sentimental value to her.

I agree in encouraging her to have it hand quilted if it was pieced several years ago with vintage fabrics.

Some churches around here have "ladies groups/circles" that get together and hand quilt. The money that they make goes back into their group/circle. But, I understand that they have HUGE waiting lists. Call some of the churches in your area.

Thanks for all your input, guys! It turns out that she is really set on me quilting it, so I might have a newer thread soon along for advice on hand-quilting a vintage wedding ring quilt top ;-)
