Looking for a Maine pattern?
Hello
I am looking for a Maine themed wall hanging pattern. I haven't been able to find one that includes the following ... bear, moose, lupine (flower), lake, lobster, skiing, Portland Lighthouse, canoe. It doesn't have to have all of these. A majority would be good. Thank you in advance Erin. |
The pattern is not here but this may give you some great ideas.

I have researched individual blocks when I am looking for something. Say you wanted something Halloween. Each one could be looked up by itself and then you could put them together how you want.
The puppy and the bathtub were two different drawings that I found online. (the towel rack I drew myself) The pumpkin was from my Halloween decorations, the apples were a picture I found. I realize that mine are machine applique and you are probably looking for regular blocks, but I am sure you will find something that will call to you. Good luck! |
Boston, I love your applique! I really need to learn how to do that.
|
Thanks so much midwife. I learned from a lady in Fort Smith, AR. I love doing that.
GoBragh, I also saw a quilt here on the board by francie yuhas. She calls it her Alaska quilt, but a lot of the same themes apply. Here post was on 9/25/17. |

Great combining of research, your own ideas and fabrics! |
I was also going to suggest expanding your search terms to include Alaskan and Canadian-themed quilts.
You might also check out McKenna Ryan's patterns. She has a series you can view here: https://www.pineneedles.com/Northwoods-s/1901.htm Her quilts and patterns are exquisite. The good thing about them is you can pick and choose which block(s) to purchase, instead of having to buy the entire quilt. This means you can buy a bear block from one quilt, a moose block from another quilt, etc. |
Exactly what I am looking for
|
Okay thank you...I will check it out
|
Make sure you check out her (McKenna Ryan's) "sale & last pattern" page. She has a lot of discounted patterns for sale, I'm pretty sure I saw a moose and a lupine block there.
|
Your above pictures are just darling. Great work on them.
|
I bought a lot of themed fabric in Alaska. All kinds of moose, bears, etc. i cant tell you the names of the shops right now, but Google Alaska Quilt Shops there was atleasr two in every port we stopped in. Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan.

Search for P3 designs by Pearl Perrera(?). She has a series of gorgeous state blocks that are all appliquéd.

You could contact some quilt shops in Maine and see if they have some special patterns for their state. I have seen a few states do this.
|
I use online free clip art or coloring pages for my appliqué shapes. I am no artist.

I don't know where you could find this but I've attached a picture of a Cindy Taylor Clark pattern that fits the description of what you are looking for.
http://www.cindytaylorclark.com/ She has a website but it looks like she is no longer in the quilt pattern business. |
The P3 patterns by Pearl Pereira are here, scroll down to look for the Maine block. It's very pretty, I saw a lupine, lighthouse, and lobster (the 3 Ls haha) --- worth a look. Applique pattern for the block in varying sizes is $6.00.

Another quilt artist you may want to look into could be Granola girl Designs by Debbie Field.
