I am currently working on a mariner's compass - I bought the fusible interfacing pattern from Quilt smart - I highly recommend this method - I have never paper pieced or sewn curved seams - this method makes it easy and love the look.

I also recommend Judy Matheison's books.
Here is a link to pictures I posted of the quilt I made using her book. The quilt is my own design but the compass blocks in it came from her book.

Have you checked out "Wedgeworks I or II by Cheryl Philips. Very easy instructions to follow and the end results are fabulous.
