Looking for a mentor for 'on point' construction
I'm making blocks for a quilt that I've decided needs to be set on point... only problem is i know nothing about setting blocks on point. Is there someone who is willing to provide me some instructions and support for this? Someone I can ask some (probably) novice questions to as I move through it?
Thanks in advance! |
I hear you. Jan WA was kind enough to do a tut for setting on point and I've gone over and over it and I can't figure it out, so I'll be watching this thread. Sorry I couldn't help you, Red.

I would just jump on here and ask away! That way you will get various options, rather than just one way. Good luck. Have you tried googling videos?? (LOL googling isn't a word according to my spell check!)

I remember the first time I did a 'on point' quilt ~ yes it it 'scary', but once you do it it is easy.
Here is a chart to help you ~ http://quiltbug.com/articles/on-point.htm Good luck |
Well that is way cool to try something new. There is a ruler you can purchase from elenore burns that is made for cutting set in triangle edges. I use it and am very happy with the ease of use.
That is a great chart grammy dwynn. |
I would not attempt to give advise without seeing your quilt. Are the triangles at the ends of each row pieced or plain.
There are different instructions for pieced or plain triangle blocks as well as the four corner triangle blocks. I would not speculate an answer. |
Thanks all - I don't have anything at the ends of my rows yet as I'm still making blocks but when I 'see' this finished, I see it finished on point!
That looks like a pretty good tutorial - think i'll give it a go when I get the rest of the blocks made. I may come back here and 'bug' a couple of you who responded lol. Thanks again! |
The chart at Quiltbug is what I needed to finally figure out what size blocks I needed. Use that and you will do great. Am sure some great quilters will offer to mentor you.

Marti Mitchell has a book out called MAchine quilting In Sections that might help too.
