Old armoirs are becoming really inexpensive to buy since most tv's are going on the walls now as flat screens. If you can find one with drawers it could be a great sewing center. And if it had a drop down or pull out table top "added on" it could be a sewing corner that hides away when necessary.

Haven't read all the threads so I hope I'm not repeating anyone. Don't forget the space under your bed; I use those underbed storage bins that have lids that can flip open from either end and have rollers. Also if your purchasing any furniture (end tables, coffee table) get the ones that have closed storage. For years I used an old trunk as a coffee table and it had the best storage. I now use it in my sewing room.

I agree with others that organizing is the key. I am assuming you'll be going back and forth in a car and you may not want to leave anything in your condo when you're gone.

We've been full-time RVers for almost 6 years. We just bought a new 32' 5th Wheel trailer, and I still have my stuff. I have a Baby Lock espire and a Baby Lock serger. The sewing machine goes between the dining table and the wall. The serger goes in "basement" storage in its rolling case.

I utilize lots of small and medium "space" bags (you suck the air out with the vacuum) and XL Ziplock bags for my very limited stash, WIPs, batting etc. My cutting mat and rulers are stored under the bed.

And, last, but not least, my DH is pretty understanding when it comes to my "disease". lol

My DH put box-store kitchen cabinets (upper and lower) and counter-tops on 2 walls for me in an L-shape. Thew cabinets hold my stash. I can use my computer and TV on one counter, and on the other counter I have my big board and iron. (Be sure to put in lots of outlets!) I also took the doors off the closet and installed 2 big bookcases to hold boxes of thread, patterns, embroidery software, Best Press and starch, etc. Although I have a ton of stuff in the room, because of the cabinets and shelves it looks reasonably neat. The other thing you could try is a Murphy bed. We put one in my husband's office so it could double as a guest room. The new ones look lovely...just like furniture. Good luck!

We have a home in CA and one in WA. I have no sewing area in WA, it's a single wide mobile home, so have to be creative. I plan my projects for WA and take the fabric/patterns I need when we go there. I bought 2 3-drawer plastic storage units at Walmart (the long drawer ones) and keep them in the spare room closet. I keep my sewing machine on a table in the living room, although I think I may get a cabinet for it this summer. We have a flat bar area that separates the living room/kitchen and I keep my serger and embroidery machine on it, off to the side when I'm not using them. I use the kitchen table if I really need to spread myself out.

Rose L: We traveled in a 31ft 5th wheel and my storage/work area was almost nonexistent. Sewing machine on shelf between drawers under small window; cut on bed; under bed storage for sewing stuff. Be sure to stay within the weight limits of your "rig" if you decide to take your LA with you. Happy traveling!

I put shelves 24inches from the ceiling around the room for fabric -on one wall I put up a couple closet rods to hang re-purposed cloth garment bags and I use file boxes-I've got a couple short sets of plastic drawers under my sewing/cutting table -You will make your new room work Once you are there things will fall into place -Quilters are pretty creative when space is at a minimum

This room is inviting. So functional yet warm and cozy. very nice!

Many have asked for pictures so here they are. I got this ideal from a member on the board. Boy it does save room. I am not through changing out with the acidfree foam board. But you will get the ideal. I hope it will help.

Where did you get your murphy bed or can you recommend the mfr.? I have been wanting to convert our guest bedroom into a sewing room & think I could do that with the murphy bed idea. Did the fold-down table come that way or did you have to add it later? Any pics you'd be willing to share in the closed position as cutting table. I want to show my DH. I was also thinking that in a few years when we move into a smaller house, I will already have my setup figured out for my needs. Thanks for the idea.
