I just finished my second quilt topper ever, yay! And now I'm looking into my next project .

I have a habit of looking around websites and saving photos of quilts with the hopes of coming back to it later and being able to make one of my own. Well I found a quilt pattern that looks pretty easy, but I don't know what it's called. I'm sure someone out there knows the name of the blocks used or the quilt technique and could help!

Also, a question, does this look like a relatively easy quilt for a beginner to complete? To me it just looks like 4 tiny squares sewn together with bigger blocks....thoughts?

I don't know the name , but I think you are correct about it being a 4 patch set on point . I know someone here will be ablr to give you more help :wink:

It looks like a 4 patch set on point. A great one for a beginner You can make it any size you want. 4 1/2 in blocks would make a 8 in finished block. Also, that is a setting of four, but you could do 6 or eight even.

That would be pretty done in 1930's reproductions. :D

So I'm making this quilt for my sister, and I'm hoping to make it 96'' by 96''... do you think it would be too nutty to make the blocks 12in?

Well, I don't know if it's nutty...lol

A 12" block means that each square in the 4-patch would be 6" and the alternate block would be a 12" white square. Why don't you take some pieces of the fabric you plan to use and just lay them out in the approximate size and take a look.

The 4-patch happens to be one of my favorite blocks and it is so easy. The trick is in pressing the seams so they nest when you assemble the block.

To my knowledge it doesn't have any special name.. it's just a scrappy 4 patch set on point. It should be VERY simple for a beginner. Nice choice!!

Just my two cents but I think a lot would depend on the fabric . The smaller prints would look better with smaller squares, does that make sense ?

I can do it up for you in 12" squares so you can see what it looks like as well as 8 and 10" too :D

Not exactly sure what you need, but here's what I'm planning for the quilt.

white fabric
8 colored fabrics
10'' blocks

A 10 inch block set on point will finish at 14" across, is that ok with you, or do you want it to be 12" across when placed on point?

Yikes! 12'' would be way too big. 10'' sounds like it would be perfect.

So I've already started cutting the squares, and finished they're going to be 10'', so if when they're set "on point" they're going to be 14'' across, then that's totally fine with me. Should be a nice sized quilt!

Ok here they are...I have to put them all in separate pdfs as I do not have the actual Adobe program.

The over all size is 96.85 X 96.85 to get it to 96 even, you would have had to cut your border widths a real funky width....if you cut them back a 1/2 inch each it will be 95.85 X 95.85 :wink:
