I have the Brothers' machine in my subject line. I did FMQ today on my machine. Had problems with bottom thread showing on top. I tried every spot on my "tension" and could not get this right. I am using Superior Nitelite Glo in the Dark thread on top and Aurafil 50 in the bobbin. The back looks great! Need to have the top look great!
Any help or suggestion would be helpful. The first photo is one of the "Hidden Wells" blocks w/FMQ. The second photo is the back (flannel). This will be my first attempt at "Quilt As You Go". Yolanda Wood River |
Usually, if you have problems on the top, it's your bobbin (problems on the back normally mean top tension is off). The 50 weight is probably thinner than what the bobbin is set for. You can tighten the tension on the bobbin, using a small screwdriver. Do not turn the screw more than a quarter turn, then test.

Your needle may be too big -- what weight is the thread are you using?

As I was getting ready to put a new needle in I remembered that my Pfaff dealer told me that I should try a 100/16. So I did put in that needle and adjusted my tension again and that seems to be working. Will post again. By the way, the thread DOES glo in the dark. My 7-year old great granddaughter is going to love it! I plan to sew her name somewhere on the quilt. What fun! I am so excited. Yolanda |
If you are worried about messing up the bobbin why not buy a separate bobbin case for FMQ so you can adjust without worrying about factory settings.
