Looking for a pattern for a rectangular log cabin placemat.

I have seen placemats made using the log cabin pattern in a rectangular placemat. It was one block in rectangular form sized to make a place mat. I can't find a pattern or figure out the pattern. Can anyone help me in my search or directions? Thank you in advance for any help.

Just start with a long strip in the middle and build around it. There are some really cute ones here - http://www.conniekresin.com/2012/12/christmas-logs.html

I'll bet that you could easily do one without a pattern. Like Dunster said, just start with a rectangular center instead of a square. Or, you could use two, different squares sewn together for added interest.

You just use different width strips. If your side to side strips are half the width of your up and down strips, you'll end up with a rectangle.

You could also do a regular block and add a couple extra vertical logs on each side.
