Looking for pattern for this star

I need to make several blocks that have this star appliqued on (or pieced into) them. I do not know it's name, or if a pattern exists?
If anyone recognizes it, please let me know.
I will look at Quilters Cache, but I was hoping for a short cut!

I would call that a variation on Mariner's Compass, and I would paper piece it.

I agree with wesing...definitely part of a mariners compass and pp'ing is the hot tip.

I agree with the folks above, I would enlarge it, divide it in 1/4ths and make a PP pattern. I have not found the star in my search -- I put a similar one on a Christmas quilt I made but I used a coloring page as the basis for the star but I can't find that page.

Search google for Mariner's Compass quilt block and click images. Most of them have a third set of points beyond what your image contains.

This is the closest pattern I could find for that but the rays are smaller for the NE, NW, SE, SW positions.

If you can get your hands on the book "Mariner's compass Setting a new course" by Judy Matheison
http://www.amazon.com/Mariners-Compa...judy+mathieson
She gives really good instructions on how to draft it yourself. Maybe your library can get the book for you or you may choose to buy it with the link I provided.

sent you a pm.

Before buying the book 'Mariner's Compass' check your local library- I have found and copied bunches of block patterns. I usually make 2 copies and go over to my local hardware store and they will cut templates from scrap pieces of plexi-glass. This is way cheaper and this leaves you more fabric monies.

Here is one that is contained in a quilt by Judy Niemeyer.
