Looking for a pattern
 

A few months ago I purchased the "Alphabet" pattern on line, it makes 10 1/2 capital letters. I made a quilt for my great niece spelling her name out (it's at my LAQ, will post a picture when I get it back). This quilt came out pretty large for an infant, her name has a lot of letters in, Madeline. Now I would like to make her a crib size quilt with her name in it, but don't know how to scale down the pattern. Does anyone know if there are other alphabet patterns out there in different sizes? or in Upper and Lower Case?

If you bought them online, do you have any photo program to shrink them down to size you need?? If not, print them out and take them down to a office supply store where you can copy them at a smaller size. That is why I like having a scanner attached to my computer.

If you have Microsoft word or any text editor, you can print out letters any size you want. You are not limited by the default font sizes. Just click on the text size box and type in any number you want. Test out a few letters and fonts until your get the size and style you want. Then print the letters.

Her name is long, so it will take more than one piece of paper. Choose landscape printing to save a few sheets.

Do you have a link to the pattern? I have been looking for big letter blocks. I have the Go Alphabet letters. They are 4". But you have to fuse or applique those.

Can you reduce the pattern pieces on a copy machine?

To reduce, divide the size you want by the size you have. In other words, if your current pattern is 10.5" tall, and you want them to be 6" tall, divide 6 by 10.5, which is .57. On the copier, reduce by 57% and your alphabet will be 6".

To enlarge, swap the numbers. If you have 6" letters and want 10.5" letters, divide 10.5 by 6, which equals 1.75. Set your copier to enlarge by 175%.

Peckish, that is the best explanation I have seen on reducing copies... I'll have to remember that for future use, it's sure to come in handy.

Peckish, this just proves you're never to old to learn. I did not know how you got the formula for reducing and increasing size. Thanks for the lesson. Now to be able to remember this. Lol

Pick up an alphabet stencil at your office supply store...they do come in different sizes. Trace out what you want and then cut it out.
