I saw this placemat on a site that I visit, and was wondering if anyone knew what the pattern name is or where I could get the pattern.

I agree with grammynan, I think it is also Tumbling Blocks.
You can find the pattern on the Quilters Cache.

Also there is a great video which shows you how to do this

Here's a paper pieced version http://www.quilterscache.com/T/TumblingBlocksBlock.html

You can also do it strip pieced http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWpSETMbws4

And I've done it English paper pieced, but only a small wall hanging! :-D

paintbug 03-12-2010 05:54 AM

Thank you all so much, I really love the pattern, altho I have never tried to do paper piecing. I may have to go to my favorite quilt shop to take a class.

I am looking at the tumbling blocks pattern, and it is not the same, It is using all diamond shapes. I am going to try to cut out the diamonds and see if I cant piece it together

It really is the Tumbling Blocks pattern. It just looks different in the picture you have, but that's really it.

OMG, You are right it was the colors that threw me off, and the pattern had triangles, but they are just along the edge. I am new at quilting, so you will have to bear with me for awhile! LOL

I did the tumbling block pattern using the traditional Y-seam approach. Does paper piecing eliminate the need for the Y-seam?

I'd like to know that too, seeing as how I've never attempted the Y-seam! :-P

I remember my grandma had only one pattern she used for her quilts and it was this one. She did it all by hand in strips. Then when the 'clan' gathered the ladies all got together for butchering or canning (in season) and at night they would join the strips. I don't think there is even one scrap of them on this earth. Thanks for joggin this dusty old memory. Blessings, Ruth

I have this book. Will have to check this out. What is the difference between English paper piecing & American pp? I'm not that familiar with it.
