Looking for pumpkin colored velvet - help!

Sounds ugly, right? Even still, I need some to make fall pumpkin/squash appliques. Has anyone ever seen appropriate colors in velvet or velveteen? I've searched but my options here in small town USA are limited. If anyone has seen fall colored velvet/velveteen out there would you kindly let me know where? Hopefully I can get pumpkin color, assorted squash colors and just the perfect green for the leaves - not asking for much, am I? BTW, have already considered other fabric choices but my heart is set on velvet. Thanks for reading this and any help you might have.

Possible there is something out there, because I remember seeing table runners made of the velvet in deep orange/ rusty colors for the Halloween/Thanksgiving holidays. It has been awhile though. Good luck!!
Try a Halloween shop or Party City type store. There may be costumes made of orange, rust, browns, greens, or deep burgundy velvet. Target or Walmart, Kohls, Goodwill or Salvation Army may have table runners or Halloween capes and costumes in these colors too. Cost may be a factor for you when going the costume route if you have to.

I went to http://www.fabric.com and typed in "orange velvet". Came up with this:
http://www.fabric.com/ProductDetail....a-d1e067d595de

The company is backlogged until the 19th, I think, so might be a little slow in coming, but they are a good company. Always check for coupons before placing an order (they have a coupon page, but sometimes you can find an even better coupon code by Googling). Orders over $35 ship free.

I know you have your heart set on velvet but there are some nice colours in felted wool that would work well for appliqué. If you can't find felted wool you like, you might be able to do it yourself with some wool sweaters from the second hand store.

You may be able to get faux suede in pumpkin colors. I got some at Joanns a couple of years ago.

I agree with felted wool. Plus, if you use velvet or velveteen and it gets folded when you store your project, next year when you pull it out, it won't look as nice. That's just my opinion.

Also, corduroy would have an interesting texture. They also have 'no wale' corduroy which looks like a very short nap velvet.

You should try the crazy quilting sites. Evening star designs or vintage vogue. There are others, try googling crazy quilting.

Wow! Thanks all for the ideas. Good thing my dream of using only velvet wasn't carved in stone - no wale corduroy would be a good substitute and felted wool also except for the expense. I 'll "force" myself to go junking and search the clothing racks - and I might as well seek out treasures in the kitchen area (and books and vintage patterns and, well, everything!) I still remember a few years back someone posted finding tons of brand new 30's repro. fabric at a thrift store! What a find! thanks again to all for helping me out!
