My oldest son got married this last February and I made him and his wife a Cal King quilt. I think within the next year my second child, a 22 year old daughter, will get married. So I am looking for patterns for queen size quilts that will not look too dated in 10-20 years. Most likely it will have home decor, Thimble Berries or civil war fabrics. If you know of any fun patterns or blocks could you please share with me? Even if it is not queen size I can adjust it to a queen size. Maybe a center meddalion would be nice but I have never attempted any such quilt on a scale like that.

Trip Around the World always looks stunning and is very easy to do.

Of all the patterns I have tried I have never done a trip around the world. It is good to know it is easy because looking at it I would not have thought so besides the basic shape, squares. I agree it is stunning and classic. I will definately have to look into it and maybe try a small baby quilt first.

I would ask your daughter what she thinks she might like for her married bedroom as far as style and colors. You can use civil war fabrics for almost any pattern. Your daugher's response may lead you in a different direction than what you might be thinking in your mind. So I would most definately ask her. I would also ask her if she would like to help in the fabric selection.

Using classic patterns will always stay in style. The fabrics used in the quilt are what dates a project.

I would suggest looking at the books and patterns from Eleanor Burns. She has the process all described for you including the making different size quilts along with the supplies and the amount of fabric needed for each project.

Oh definitely! She also knows I can not afford to buy all new fabrics for a queen size quilt. She is also a quilter but just hasn't done much now with college and other demands. I was going to run ideas and patterns posted by her along with fabric colors and options. I want to be sure if is something she and Ryan like as I hope they will use it. I also know she would like me to add some of my own interpertation. We will have fun planning this. I am secretly hoping she might sew a little part of it too.
