Looking for a quilt panel of the Portland Head Light
I know it's a long shot but I'm trying to see if there's a panel out there in cyberspace that features the Portland Head lighthouse?
My BIL was stationed at a lighthouse during his stint in the Coast Guard but now is in a nursing home along with my sister. My sister has some momento's from her home over her bed but BIL has a blank wall and I thought I'd try and make a quilted panel to hang in the space. Any lead where I might find this? |
You could find a picture on the computer and copy it to fabric and make one that way...might work if you can't find a panel.

I realize Portland Head is 'your' lighthouse (Nauset is 'mine'), but if you'd settle for another, there are some panels by VIP for sale at Favorite Fabrics http://www.favoritefabric.com/cgi/co...on&key=VPSHPNL and some by Classic Cottons at Craft Town Fabrics (they also have a kit) http://www.crafttownfabrics.net/cgi-..._lghts_60200-2 .
There is a PHL quilt block - 6" paper pieced pattern that you could enlarge http://www.equiltpatterns.com/quiltp...roducts_id=721 A book titled Quilting Lighthouses of New England that is out of print, but maybe your library could find it. http://softexpressions.com/software/books/LightHou.php And a 12" block pattern of PHL that has much more detail than the first one. You could enlarge this one and it would be perfect. http://www.thequiltingbear.com/products.htm Hope one of those links proves useful. |
I just googled images of it. It's a beautiful lighthouse. Could you print out a picture, blow it up to the size you wanted, and make a fusible applique of it. It would be a fun landscape project, if you've never done one before. With the perfect sky, and the rocky coastline. Oh my. I might could tackle that one for me it's so pretty. Good luck.

The lighthouse has some fantastic pics on the net. Beautiful.
A photo on fabric would be fantastic. |
I want to thank everyone who replied to my question on where I could find the Portland Head Light material or panel. All were great leads and I found some other lovely patterns that I'm saving. I ended up buying a panel of a lighthouse from EBay that was more whimsical and colorful and should be easy to quilt since the design has quilting elements already in the pattern. I can't wait for it to come.
Thank you all again. I know we can always count on the Board to help. |
