I've been working on these stars for about a month. I think I have 60 of them made. I'm aiming to make a king size. I took a couple blocks to joanns and held an audition :) I liked the navy but i'm not sure if that would be to harsh. (it was a floral print, background was navy)

i would use either green or pink. pink if you want a more feminine look and green if you want a more neutral look.

Your blocks are really pretty. I would love to see all 60.
It would depend on the "look" you are going for as to the color for sashing. Your stars and backgrounds do not seem to have a lot of contrast, so the quilt is a very soft, subtle palate. To continue that look I would go with a soft green like in the star #2. Or maybe a pink. But the best way to decide is to lay out some fabric and then lay your blocks on top, leaving them far enough apart so that the "sashing" shows. Take the blocks with you to a quilt shop and audition fabric. They LOVE it when you come in and ask for opinions--they live for that stuff. Oh, and let us know what fabric you decide. |
marcia your a doll for fixing my pictures! Thanks

no problem--it only took a second--happy to help :D

I was also thinking of of setting them on point and maybe making a medallion.
I had also thought I wanted to try the fun and done with this quilt top. My sewing machine is soooo small so my sashing would be my backing also. I probably will go for the green. I plan to go to hobby lobby and see what they have on the clearance rack. haha. I need to figure out the yardage for that. |
Your stars are very pretty! I think I might go with a beige, or tan for the sashing. Just a thought T

I agree with the previous posts. Your stars are lovely, but I think if you use a brighter sashing you will overwhelm the stars. I would try green since your backgrounds are that, leaving your stars to stand out.

Me too...I vote for the soft green

I thought a green also...in fact I think I have just what you need in my stash...so send me the blocks...and I can't promise WHEN you'll get them back - I'm loving them so maybe never!!!! JK
I also could see a dusty rose color. Something without a pattern maybe a tone on tone. the sashing would definately set the stars. You've done a Marrrrrrvelous job on them! |
Ditto on the green , and I love your blocks!

I would try a marble purple color for the sashing.

Thanks everyone, I would have gotten on earlier but my cable, internet and telephone went out. Called the cable company and they came out today. Someone stole my cable. haha. So it's all fixed now. Here's a picture of all my blocks. I went to hobby lobby today and couldn't find what I wanted in the clearance section. But I did find some orange with pick and green in it and got a 1/2 yard cut. So pretty. (probably won't go in the quilt but I had to have it!) I also got 1/4 yrd of white on beige. It's funny my hubby said purple! But I'm going to opt for the green (when I find it) and maybe a darker green for cornerstone. Might also make the cornerstones into mini stars. First quilt for myself, might as well try and go all out!

Can't go wrong with the green - either soft and sage-y or deeper for more intense contrast .
