There are some great ideas and links in this thread. Thanks all!

I love the Sunrise and Sunburst patterns! I wonder if one of those was it. They're both made with QSTs.

Thanks for all of your help!

I saw a star quilt block that was made from someone's leftover HSTs. It has only 2 fabrics -- print and background. The center is a print snowball, and the HSTs make the star points. But there's like a background sashing between the snowball and the star points. I thought it would be easy to find, but I've been searching for about a week and can't find it. Anyone have any ideas?

Check out Deb Tucker's Galaxy pattern. Super easy, quick and easy to up-size by adding a couple of borders.

when i have to figure out a pattern myself and it has quarter square triangles, i just make half square triangles. four of them for each quarter square triangle block. good luck

I have been searching for this block for months... found a few versions finally. It can be called a 54-40 or fight block. Look at the Galaxy quilt by Deb Tucker and there is also one or two other names for it. It is also part of the Storm at Sea block. The one I want has a square in a square for the center, which is different than your drawing. I think you have a snowball inside a square. I want to use just one print and a solid. I hope you have found what you are looking for already, or that this information is helpful. Please show your quilt when you get started?

Here's a sketch. But the thing that is throwing me off is that this would use quarter square triangles, not half square triangles. By the time I turn my HSTs into QSTs they'll be pretty small. And the "sashing" around the snowball is uneven. That doesn't seem right. Also, the center snowball was proportionately larger. I'm doing a lot of scribbling and erasing.

How about this one? The center could be considered a "large snowball" if it were one piece and this would look like the block if it were set on point.

Reminds me of a fig tree pattern. https://store.figtreeandcompany.com/...p/ftq-1203.htm Or possibly a sunflower quilt??
