I discovered this wonderful site about a month ago at the same time I started quilting. I am amazed at the quilts I have seen here and all the experience and advice that come with them! I am making this baby quilt for a coworker's daughter who is having her first baby. But I don't know how I should quilt it- free motion, stitch in the ditch, or diagonal lines? The quilt top is flannel. I made a Christmas lap quilt for my sister and quilted it with a free motion pattern. However, I don't know if that will make the baby quilt too "stiff." I welcome all your advice and suggestions.

What a pretty quilt. I think either in the ditch or diagonals would be great.. you could do meandering, just don't make it too close together.

Welcome to the board from Southern California.
I like to stitch diagonally with a fun stitch. Something wavy or loopy, then if you are not perfectly lined up, you can't tell!!

Thanks for your suggestion - will give it a try.

That's a great idea. I definitely don't want to call attention to any more mistakes, so that sounds like a plan.

I wouldn't do anything fancy as far as quilting, unless you know this will be kept as an heirloom quilt. I usually just do a meandering stitch when doing baby quilts. It's great practice and usually goes quickly, which is perfect for a baby quilt.

That's a good suggestion. I think that's what I'll do.

One suggestion, which was pointed out in one of the posts above, is to make sure your meandering stitch isn't too close. I learned this from experience. If it's too close, the baby quilt ends up being stiff as a board, which is great for the floor but doesn't work to snuggle the baby with.
