Looking for tips for using Silhouette to cut small appliqué shapes
 

I just dusted off my Cameo Silhouette machine and want to use it to cut all the appliqué pieces for Laundry Basket Quilts pattern, BLUE SPRUCE. There are tons of long skinny stems in this one! I have searched through Pinterest and online about using Steam a Seam lite 2 on the Silhouette, but still have some questions. Has anyone used a Silhouette or Cricut machine successfully for cutting small appliqué pieces? Will steam a seam adhere well to starched fabric? Has anyone successfully cut small pieces from fabrics with fusible with or without starch? I would love any input and advice.

Starch doesn't mesh well with fusibles. If using fusible you don't need starch. For the cricut I found that I had to use a brayer, a new mat that was super sticky, and the deep cut blade. I have not tried fabric on the silhouette so not sure what the steps are. I know with the cricut the cuts were never as nice as on my scanncut and I have found everything easier with my scanncut. since I have limited experience with the silhouette and my FIL mostly does vinyl as has not tried fabric yet I don't know what settings but for my scanncut I have a blade just for fabric, and I use a brayer on it as well. I have used the floriani fusible and have not had problems. On my MIL cricut I used heat and bond lite. I ouwld suggest going on youtube to find tutorials on cutting fabric with the cameo. There should be lots of info on it. I would test with scraps to get you settings right before cutting your actual pieces

Make sure mat is sticky and stabilize fabric. Use a new blade.
There is a fabric blade and very good suggestions for cutting. I might have used some type of doublesided iron on stabilizer.

Thanks for the tips ladies...I suppose its time to just be brave and jump in and do it! Ill try to get back and let ya know how it went.

I back my fabric with freezer paper and have successfully cut small leaves and stems for appliqué with my silhouette. I then use elmers glue sparingly to apply to my piece and then blanket stitch around by machine.
