Are you thinking of a product I think made by Pellon that has little squares on it that you fuse fabric square onto? After the squares are fused you then go back and sew the seams. It was popular for doing watercolor quilts a few years ago.

nope !! Let's see if I can explain it better. You take -lets say a 45" by 45" piece of muslin and draw a grid on it.............say every 4". then you take 3" squares and center in the 4" square grid. Then you sew from top to bottom catching the square just 1/4" inside the square. Does this help.. I know there is alot more to it and that is why I am looking for the tutorial.

I know I just saw what you are describing in the past few days. The pieces were stitched down, the edges raw and left to rag, and the pieces were in a grid-like pattern. Try searching for "confetti quilt" -- I think that is what they are called.

the first link is the same concept of what you are looking for except the quilter made individual squares instead of using whole cloth.
