Looking for a way to use up 2" squares
 

I have many 2" squares of fabric and would like to use them up. Is there a few patterns out there that I could go by. I know everyone on this QB is so helpful and informative so was hoping for some ideas. Thanking you in advance.

Obviously your project would end up smaller or would use more squares, but you can simply substitute them for any 2.5" designed project, like the recent Double Irish Chain sew-along here that is on the challenges page.

As I was going through my stash, I found a bundle of about 760 Y2K 2.5" squares and I looked around and realized that I could spend the rest of my quilting career doing nothing but projects based on 2.5" cuts. I chose a traditional "Flying Square" block.

With a 2" cut subunit, that would result in a 1.5" finished subunit. Your squares would end up at 7.5" whereas with a 2.5" cut it is a 10" block.

I didn't color my project at all like that, I used random scraps to make 9-patches + off-white tone on tone backgrounds.

Edit/PS: Once you decide on the pattern, I know I would be willing to help you with any math conversions you may need. But basically it is the desired finished size of the piece + .5" each direction for seam allowance -- except for triangles! But you can also make a bunch of HST (half square triangles) by sewing them down the middle, I'd just discard the extra trimmings as being too small for me to want to work with, but that's up to you! Plenty of traditional designs like Ocean Waves or baskets that could use those finished size 1.5" triangles.

There is a scrappy Double Irish Chain sew-along currently in full swing here on the QB, https://www.quiltingboard.com/quilti...g-t304703.html . Most are using 2.5" squares, but there are no rules. It will help you use up lots of 2" squares! Plenty of chatter and encouragement on that thread!

You need to discover the free patterns library at QuiltedTwins.com! They have so many great patterns to choose from. They are for different sized scrappy squares, but they have many for 2" squares, specifically. I made this one with 2.5" squares, and it just didn't have the same impact as with the 2" squares it called for. Next time I will make it with 2" squares.

I remember the Quilted Twins pattern site shared awhile ago but completely forgot about it - thanks for the reminder! Some great ideas in there :)

I used 2" squares when I wrote the tutorial for the Granny Square quilt I made. It is on the tutorial page.

I just put some together and added an inner border, then more squares and another border, plus rabbit. the border has tiny rabbits on it. can't see them well but they were the inspiration for the large one.

I have a few left from some quilts I have made. I am going to put them together to make larger blocks and probably use some leftover off white as sashes. I just want to stop them from becoming more scraps.
