A month or so ago I read about a very easy fast quilt top to make. I "thought " I would remember how to make it, because it was sooo easy, BUT with the old brain getting too many cobwebs, I have forgotten important parts. Here's the part I do remember and maybe someone can help me with the rest. You sew jelly roll strips together end to end until you have one VERY long. strip. Then, you fold that in half and sew along the long side and continue to fold and sew the long until you get the right size quilt top width. The part that I didn't remember is the part on how to keep the seams from lining up when folding in half. Thanks in advance :P

Glad you posted this message . I missed the original post and it sounds like something I would like to do. Thanks.

here is one. there is also a video of this quilt = with a group of ladies all making them at the same time. Maybe someone has that one marked. I did a search for Fast Jelly Roll Quilt and found lots of links on this board. Take a look. June in Cincinnati |
You cut 20" off the first piece and then sew your long strip. This will stagger your seams in each row.

I've been hoarding jelly rolls and plan to make a Queen, with no borders, based on the tute posted on this board. I estimate the strips, sewn together, will be as long as my backyard. lol.

This is the ONE!!! Thanks

One thing the videao doesn't show is that when you get to the end, you cut the loop. lol. I watched it twice before I decided I didn't understand it. Then I read the tute on the board and slapped myself with a great big DUH!

Neat but when I went to the address in the video where it says full instructions, I don't see them. I don't have the time or patience to hunt all over the site for it.
Watched the video but haven't a clue what it was all about, it flew by my eyeballs so fast, they could have been making doll clothes for all I know. I think I need written instructions, ya think?
Thanks for asking about this, I missed it the first time around. Will certainly give this one a try.
Thanks to everyone for all the help in locating the direction. I finished the quilt to yesterday in a couple of hours. It's a VERY fast and easy project. I'll make more of these soon.

I pieced a Project Linus top this way out of plaids I wanted out of my life! Of several I have pieced this way, it turned out the best. Lots of personality and (surprise, surprise) the plaids (all colors and sizes) didn't fight. Going to make some kid happy!

PM me and I'll send you the written directions.

How many strips in a jelly roll?
40
Sounds interesting - never heard of this method before!
I've made 2 of these, one from a purchased jelly roll which a friend machine quilted for me and it is going to a quilt benefit auction for a Bible Camp. The other is from strips I had here and after it is tied, it is going to Alabama to the tornado victims. It turned out nice, too, but would have been better if I'd planned better. I just used random strips of blues and browns.
All you have to do is cut your first strip in half so it will be about 20 inches long. Then start the sewing the rest of them on. I did 2 tops of these in one afternoon--fun!! If you have a package of layer cakes that you don't know how to use you can do the same technique and you get a nice "block " look.
WOW looks like fun. Definately one to try
I have made several quilts from scraps using this method ... PM me if you would like a few hints ... they are fun
Looks fun. Can't wait to try it.
