Lost quilt FOUND!

My mammaw made quilts. Most of them were utilitarian but all the grands got a "nice" one for HS graduation. I thought mine was gone but I found out my mom had it and I got it yesterday.
It's white with big purple flower on each panel.
Well, now I don't know what to do with it.
Because of our many indoor pets, we don't decorate our bed. We have basic sheets and blankets/comforters/quilts needed to stay warm. There's no way I'm putting a "good" quilt out for the animals to ruin! I know it sounds weird because I consider myself a quilter, but we don't even have a quilt I've made. Right now, it's still in my car because I don't want to bring it in!

Hang it on the wall on to display

barny 01-03-2012 03:43 PM

I don't blame you. We love our pets, but that quilt is irreplaceable. Put it on a quilt holder. You can get them in all sizes and made of a lot of different things.

Crossstitcher 01-03-2012 03:45 PM

Use a quilt rack to display it. Don't forget to send us a picture to see it.

morelcabin 01-03-2012 03:49 PM

We have indoor pets too:) They have been trained to stay off the beds and sofas...and have mats they sleep on...although my youngest son has always allowed them on his bed...ugh

KerryK 01-03-2012 04:22 PM

Ugh???? Our sweet baby Gracie sleeps with us and we wouldn't have it any other way. Actually, she has a king size bed that she graciously shares with us. But, I must admit, she has hair like humans (Maltese) so truly does not shed, and is such a good little girl with no destructive tendencies. And such a sweet little cuddler.

For the quilt, I'd probably put it on a quilt rack. Bring it in and enjoy it! Life's too short to not enjoy what brings you happiness.

I gave all of my kids a quilt their grandmother (my Mom) hand quilted; did not tell them anything except where it came from. My oldest son folded his in quarters and displays it in his "vacation" home 1/4 at a time on a wall-hung quilt hanger. It looks beautiful! The rest of the kids are still deciding if they even want to chance it...they were all heirloom quality so I guess they'll take their time figuring it out.

QandE2010 01-03-2012 04:37 PM

If I were you, I'd figure out a way to display it without it being ruined by the fur babies. Let us know what you decide. Thanks for sharing.

Gramie bj 01-03-2012 07:16 PM

Hang it up! you will enjoy it everytime you enter the room and so will your guest! Word of warning. Do you have cats? As much as I love my Otis she can be a pest if I hang a quilt where she can reach it. I have one hanging above my couch. It is the only one I will hang there! Otis gets on the back of the couch and behind the quilt then climbs it! She has snaged the backing in several places. The quilt is nothing special just a pattern I tryed with a bunch of scraps but she loves it. I made a new label for it It says Otis's quilt 2009

I would hang it somewhere on a quilt holder.

Lol...we have a boxer that leaves short little hairs by the ton wherever she lays, and we have a 100 pound malimute husky...believe me it really is 'ugh!' LOL! A well behaved maltese is a whole differet story I think...haha...trad for a malimute?

damaquilts 01-05-2012 04:47 AM

morelcabin, You have got to love dogs if you have a malamute/husky lol they shed all the time. And the blown coats in the heat. Uggh YOu are right. I have a lhasa/poodle mutt and he likes to scratch so no fancy quilts on my bed unless I cover them with a sheet. But I can't imagine him being anywhere but on the bed. His bed ,he shares a bit with me. :-)

AshleyR 01-05-2012 05:13 AM

I know she wouldn't want it hanging on the wall or on a rack. I might keep it in the living room and pull it out for snuggle-time.
The good thing is that I can wash it and if I have to, I can repair mine and my cousins can't!

dd 01-05-2012 05:22 AM

Personally, I think you should send it to me, for safe keeping!lol (Since it's purple) Mammaw would have wanted it that way.hehe

sewnbug 01-05-2012 05:22 AM

Get a quilt rack and display it on that.

homecaregiver 01-05-2012 05:24 AM

I had a fr iend who took a ladder and painted it to match her house decor and hung her quilts on each rung of the ladder it was a striking display of her quilts.

So many have said hang this quilt for display and I agree. These family beauties should be out for our pleasure and enjoyment. Besides everyone will ask about who made the beautiful quilt and you can then honor your mammaw by telling about her gift to her grandchild, you.

Someone here please answer this??? Why when I click on someones post is there not a picture. What am I doing wrong. I did see one here today and they sound like there should be pictures but not. Thanks for any info you can give me. This area is new to me, I liked the other way they did this program.

No way! Your betta will spash water on it in a fit of anger!

imdelagarza62 01-05-2012 06:29 AM

I think you should use it as you stated for cuddle time and then put away when not in use.

jaciqltznok 01-05-2012 07:19 AM

quilt rack time! there was a topic on here earlier this week about how to display your quilts!

quilt3311 01-05-2012 07:45 AM

Hang the quilt, makes wonderful conversation piece when people see it hanging.

Nanaquilts44 01-05-2012 08:04 AM

If you want to look at it all the time hang it on the wall. As quilt3311 said it is a conversation piece and a family treasure.

yonnikka 01-05-2012 12:15 PM

I saw a really neat display for hanging a quilt high up: use an old Cherry-picking ladder. Lean it against the bedroom wall. You can display very small quilts at the top, where the step is narrow, with wider steps down toward the floor. This kind of ladder display might work to protect your treasure and display it, too.

tlclifford47 01-05-2012 12:20 PM

You know I only have one quilt for my husband and I. I have been quilting for 4 years and gave them all away to my family. We have 2 dogs and 3 cats 4 of them get on the bed, our big dog sleeps on the floor. She would love to snuggle with us, but just to big. I need to start making for myself and displaying them on a quilt rack.
Good Luck

caspharm 01-05-2012 01:55 PM

I agree with hanging on some type of quilt holder.

annpryor 01-05-2012 03:32 PM

Show us a picure.

Ok, here it is. Pulling it out to take a picture was the first time I'd seen the whole thing in 20 years.

I can't put it on a ladder or a quilt rack, because of the cats. They will find a way to nap on it!

Crossstitcher 01-05-2012 04:33 PM

That is so pretty. Hope you can find a safe way to display it.

sew1096 01-05-2012 10:55 PM

Beautiful quilt and a wonderful memory for you. I agree with the others and would hang the quilt on a wall so it can enjoyed everyday.

ShabbyTabby 01-05-2012 11:33 PM

I agree, hang it on a wall rack. Our fur babies have no appreciation for heirloom quilts. To them they are just nice to cuddle in !!

roadrunr 01-06-2012 11:15 AM

Is there anyway you could hang it on the ceiling? I know it sounds kind of wierd putting a quilt on the ceiling, but that way, you'd get to see it (and everyone else) and you'd keep it out of the way of your furbabies.

Grandma Cindy 01-06-2012 02:59 PM

quilt rack or hanger but do keep it out of the sun for it can fade..

kiffie2413 01-06-2012 03:05 PM

First off, so glad you found your much loved quilt! I also would display it by hanging on a quilt shelf, or using a quilt rack..
Kif

How about a frame that can be opened if you want to use the quilt?? I had this idea for a quilt that my sister-in-law had gotten from her Grandmother and it works great!! Kind of expensive to have it professionally done, but well worth the money.
