Since I have been quilting I have accumlated lots of batting in rather large pieces...does anyone have any suggestions on what to do with it...I am hesitant to use it in my quilts....have seen where you can sew it together and use it, BUT? Thanks for any help, meme peggy

I understand they can be 'zigzagged' together 'butted up' to each other NOT overlapping.
I've done it on small projects but not a large bed quilt. 'everyone' said it works |
it's easy to stitch the pieces together - there are several ways to do it. If you don't want to do that, there are usually sewing groups in the community that will take batting to use in their projects.
As quiltinghere said, they can be zigzagged together ( slightly overlap the pieces then use the rotary cutter to cut thru the space there the batting is doubled - this creates perfectly aligned edges - throw away the small edges and use a wide zigzag or wide multistitch zigzag to connect the two....there is also an iron-on tape you can now purchase just for connecting two pieces of batting, and there are other techniques that folks use. |
Thanks for the tip, I am going to try them and see what works for me....meme peggy

You could also use it in placemats or other smaller quilted things. I have stitches mine together for larger quilts. I hate to waste anything.

It will work on bed quilts too. By the time it's joined, sandwiched and quilted there won't be any problems with it separating. You can also use it on smaller projects---couch throws, baby blankets, wall hangings, table runners, bed runners, placemats, etc. It's great to use with the Fun & Done method too.

I stitch my extra pieces together and use them in other projects. I hate to waste enything.

I have also stitched together pieces of batting to make larger bedsize quilts. And I can definitely say that I had no trouble machine quilting it and once done could not tell where the batting was pieced. The quilt I did it with has been in use for several years and no problems whatsoever.

Oh my! Don't trash that batting! It's easy to join together or just use it in smaller projects.

I zigzag all my left over pieces and it works fine with all my quilts
