Love the Hunters Star block but it's driving me crazy!
Today I know I have ripped out every seam twice! They are not going together well and stretching! It's definitely me, not the pieces-I cut them out with my Go! Finally just put them away! I'm beginning to hate this quilt- it's been a disaster from the start! My first four blocks were ruined when I knocked over my grapefruit juice! The red bled and I had pre-washed! Maybe it should stay put up!

You are going to get stretch on some on bias edges. Try to place your fabric in the Go so most of the edges are on the straight of grain.
|
also, starch the fabric heavily before cutting.

I have the Hunter's Star die and haven't had any problem sewing the block. Did you follow the grain cutting guideline on the die package?
Forgot to add I starch and press the fabric twice before cutting. It really makes a difference in piecing. |
I am just going to ask for the sake of it because it is obvious you are unhappy and frustrated.......but if you really want to make a Hunter's Star quilt...have you thought of doing your hunter's star with half square triangles method?? IMO it makes a beautiful hunters star.....not perhaps "traditional".....but it works. There is also the method where you stitch the angle at the ends of a strip - and they form the star when you sew the blocks together. Someone will know the name of the method / pattern....as i cannot bring it to mind. In neither of these do you have to worry too much about bias.

Some days are just like that. Things just don't go right. Put it away, then get it out when things seem to be going well in other areas of life...it will go together well after you've 'rested' it awhile. :-)

Here's a link that shows how to make the Hunter's star block using HSTs

Thanks to all of you! I need the encouragement. I did starch to cut my pieces but haven't since then. I'll add more ! Love the half square method and will try that too. I do think I'll give it a brake and redesign to use the 10 or so squares I already have.

Give yourself a break and work on another project. Then when you come back to it, things will work out much better. That's what works for me.
