I have so many ideas from them floating in my head. DH is going to make me a sewing cabinet. I am so excited! He found some great looking oak and the plans have been ordered. Hopefully it won't take him forever to get it built. DD will not be happy when she finds I have taken over her room while she is at college. But she has her own apartment there so why should I be worried. LOL.

Your new sewing room deserves a nice cabinet! So do you! :)

My mom has converted an old school science lab table (remember those-with the sink and drawers beneath?)to her cutting table. She covered the top in batting and muslin just enough to still be workable. It is about 47" high and is perfect for cutting. It gets used all the time.

Good for you in getting your own sewing room. Your daughter has left the nest and doesn't need her own room anymore. If she's like my DD when she went to college she came home to do laundry and get money, lol!! It got to be further & further between trips and money can be sent. If she plans on coming for a "visit" all she needs is a couch, lol!!!

I was mistaken about the height of mom's cutting table - it is 38" high.

I can't wait to see your cabinet. Have fun in your own room.

Hey...I am totally with you! My son left for college last year and my daughter is a SR in high school so she'll be gone in less than a year. My dad lived with us too while I took care of him. So...they all move on and so should we :D I was SO worried about empty nest but honestly quilting has helped me think about what I would lke for the 1st time and we deserve it!! My husband and I talked about where I could set up a quilting area and he gave me the entire main room in our basement!! I am SO excited! I am planning to use my first quilt as my "theme" as I just loved the colors of the fabric. I have had tons of fun planning it all out. I found an old desk for $30 and repainted it and am still working on a cutting table. I'm hoping to post pics of before and after and you need to as well....I'm SO excited for you. HAVE FUN!!

As soon as my kids were in their first live away from home place, their rooms were no more. Having the same childhood room would be a crutch to move back home instead of dealing with a hard spot. Sewing room, guest room, and DH turned one bedroom into a media room. They still have a lot of their room items packed in boxes in our garage. They never seem to have room for them even in the new homes they move into. I am in the process of getting rid of the guest room and planning to have a quilting machine set up in it. I bought four roll a way beds that fit perfectly in a walk in closet. Any more guests than that I have blow up beds and money for a motel room.

That is so exciting!

I just feel guilty taking her room. She is only 45 minutes away so she comes for a night her and there. I downsized from a full to a twin bed. But my mother thought it was terrible when I repainted it and put a new comforter and window treatment when she left. It took my mom 10 years after I moved out before she moved a thing. I guess I'm not that sentimental. My mom would call it selfish but it's not her house then is it. I excited and can't wait for the plans to arrive.

Most women feel guilty if they don't put themselves last. I would never want my daughters to put themselves last so why set the example?

Hi Sherry,

Here is my sewing room. It is going under yet another remodel. Since Paco, my embroidery machine moved in. He is getting his own personal area in the closet and new shelves are going to be installed in there also.

As you can see I keep all my babies (kids and grandkids) pictures all around me.

Slick Sasquatch and my shelf for my rulers.

I have a Regal/Horn of America Air List Platform mechanism for installing airlift in existing or custom made sewing cabinet. I am wanting to sell it as DH never did get my sewing table made.

It is so you can get the sewing surface of your machine level with table top. That's really nice to have. I have that now in the sewing table that I purchased. (Tired of waiting!)

I want $50 for it plus shipping. I have no idea how much shipping would be but would ship it as cheap as possible and would only charge exact shipping cost. If you are interested in it, please PM and I will send you pictures and try to get a shipping cost. You could go on line and possible see it too. Dani

I bought it at a little shop in San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf. I am sure you can find one on the internet somewhere.
