Does anyone know of a good site for cheap, but nice, buttons? I have a bunch of purse patterns and one I really like has 8 buttons. If they're quick and easy to do I might make several of them. Plus, whatever other patterns I want to try that has buttons.

Do you have a WalMart close by ? If so I would check them first... Otherwise a Joanns or Hancocks when they have them on sale

I am thinking about making my own fabric buttons. I have a jar of buttons that was given to me, i'm sure you can get some at thrift stores very cheap, then im going to cover my button with a little poly, and a large circle of fabric, and gather on the back, like a yo-yo, then you can stitch it to the purse through the buttonholes. This way you could make matching fabric buttons. Another way to make fabric buttons is you can buy packages of plastic rings, and can cover them the same way.

I am very interested in how you make buttons using plastic rings...could you please explain how you make them?? Thank You!!! :D :D :D

Well i've never done it with fabric amma. Years ago i would buy the packages of little white plastic rings, and i would crochet a yo-yo right around the ring, then sew it onto the crocheted sweater. So this is my thought, cut a circle of fabric, couple inches around, lay down on table wrong side up, then put down a layer of fiber fill, then lay down your plastic ring, then sew around outside edge like a yo-yo, and pull stitches real tight. Gathered edge is back of your button, then sew the centre to your project :)

What a great site! I just looked at the novelty buttons and they have prices of like $4 for 50 buttons!?!?

I went by Joann's today to pick up some fabric for a purse and I got 16 buttons, 8 of each, and one was $1 for 2 of them and the other was $1.75 for 4 of them.

I think I will be placing an order at this site when I look over fabric and the patterns again to make sure what I want.

That's a good idea, Barb. A way to use those plain and/or yucky buttons that you otherwise wouldn't use.
