LQS downsizing

I received an email that my LQS (which is owned by 2 good friends) is having a month-long sale. One of the partners is retiring. Evidently each partner purchased her own lines of fabrics. So, there are over 600 bolts of fabric being offered for 45% off!

I checked out the fabric department when I was at Walmart today. Found some better quality fabrics in the $5.00 range. What shocked me most was a new line of fabrics at nearly $8 a yard.

I can buy LQS fabrics at the February sale for less than I can buy at Walmart!!!

Walmart fabric has doubled in price. I use to buy David's Textile there, just a few months ago for $2.97 a yard, now it is $4.98. The price increase is a shock all at once.

its like boiling a frog. put him in cold water and bring to a boil and he would never know he was toast but drop him in boiling water and he jumps out. same with us with fabric prices. 25-50 cents is not noticed but over a dollar we start to hop about mad.

Sorry to hear about your LQS. Our LQS closed their brick and mortar store after 41 years in business, and are on-line only now. I miss touching and feeling the fabric. Computer Monitors are not always accurate when it comes to colors.

Oh yes, Jackie Spencer. I love the online deals but am frustrated with the colour distortions. I have a fabulous panel from Benartex and have found that fabric line at a good price at an online store, but cannot decide on the co-ordinating colours because the product numbers are not the same....argh!!

As a side (or co-ordinating note) have you noticed that several grocery products have not changed prices but have suddenly become smaller in quantity? Check yoghurt, mayonaise, and condiments. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...

I think fabric is going up everywhere. I try not to buy it unless it's on sale or I have a coupon.

First they give you a smaller quantity at the same price, then six months later they raise the price of groceries.

I live in Illinois. Can you share the shop name? Sounds like a road trip !!

Man if I could buy fabric for $4.98 a yard I would be loving it! Usually around here it is about $8.99 and up! But I do see how when you are used to paying one price and then it jumps it can be really annoying and hard to handle!

Does your LQS have an on line site? Would love to check it out.
