Lucky mistake

I was setting my blocks on point. I thought I knew what size to cut my side triangles. Of course I cut them about 2.5 inches too small. I tried to find more fabric, no luck. My friend suggested I just sew a 2.5 inch strips of a dark fabric onto my off white triangles. When I tried this I had a built in birder with the corners of my blocks jutting out into my borders. It looks like I spent a lot of time & effort into doing this. I will surly will be doing this again. Sorry I gifted the quilt before I remembered to take a picture.

As Bob Ross used to say, there are no mistakes, only happy accidents. I can just picture it from your description!

Hey, without mistakes or breaking the rules, we'd never discover anything new!

On what side of triangle did you add the strip, please?

We often do not make mistakes - we add design elements! And, some of us, more often than we want to!!

From her description, it sounds like she put the strip on the long side of the triangle, which would put a dark border on the outer edge of the quilt. It sounds really neat, I applaud you, True, for doing some creative problem-solving!

That is correct. When you are looking at the triangle right side up, corner pointing to bottom right add strip to long side of triangle. On the corner it took a bit of re-sewing to get the right size dark point ( real pro here, grin). I just worked it till it matched. That took the longest.

Peckish, that is correct. When looking at the triangle right side up the corner is at the bottom right. It took me longer to make the corner point match. Quite a bit of un-sewing took place. Math not being my strong point.
