I need to purchase a new sewing machine. I have a Pfaff-Tiptronic that has been a lemon (pain in butt) for me from the beginning. I used to have a Viking that I loved. Right now I am looking at A Viking- a Diamond, I think. I do not need a machine that embroiders.

Anyhow I saw somewhere on QB a site posted that one could go to to get info and comparisons on the different brands. Does anyone know where that site is? Thanks...

Just type in "sewing machines" in the search engine above and it opens up a whole world of posts about sewing machines. There is one titled Researching sewing machines.

Is this the site you are talking about?

I have used it for the machines I was shopping for and found it very helpful.

Machines are very individually specific. Look at all the different machines people on this board love. My suggestion would be to go and try as many as you can. Take small quilt sandwiches with you and any other different fabrics you think you will use and try them all out. We can all give our opinions on the machines we love but again we are individuals and your absolute best bet is to try them for yourself and see what you are most comfortable with. There is no right or wrong for anyone.

Terrific advice. There is no absolute "best". There IS a perfect machine for YOU though.

The Diamond is the top of the Viking line Embroidery machine. Very expensive....

The Designer Diamond is the top of the Viking line. There are other models within the Diamond lineup. Some with and some without the option of embroidery.

How different experiences each of us have! I have a Pfaff Tiptronic for 10 yrs and I only changed the bulb light; took it for service 3 times, one when a thread got caught and couldn't take it myself. I am in love with Pfaff and just bought an embroidery Pfaff creative 2170. You surely wouldn't want my advise at all as I can only speak great about the Tiptronic. I would ask how much would you sell it for

I agree with Leakus. I wouldn't trade my Pfaff in for anything. Maybe you just haven't met the right model for you yet. I have a 7570 (use to have a 1475 and could kick myself for trading it in).
