Hello Everyone,

I am comparing 2 machines, I would like opinions and reviews as to which is the better machine.

Brother PE770

or

Singer Futura XL400

Thanks! :)

Check http://www.patternreview.com for machine reviews of specific models. I'm sure there will be some reviews there of each machine.

Also do a search here using the search feature above. Tons of threads about them, I'm sure.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a new Singer, so I'd go with the Brother.

I would have to agree. I heard their service and quality are nothing like they were in the past.

I bought a new Singer 2 years ago and I really found it to be a piece of junk. I now have a Babylock and love it! Babylock and Brother are made by the same company. In fact I bought 1 new & one used Babylock and no problems at all.

I have to agree. I love the old Singers but, the new ones leave a lot to be desired....

I have just bought a Janome Horizon. Haven`t used it yet as not set up.

My very first sewing machine was a Brother, I still have it. I now have a singer sewing machine which I love.

Found nothing on that site, Thanks for trying.

Babylock costs so much money though. :(

I found only the Brother Pe 770 on there and not much info. I am comparing embroidery machines. :)

Anyone have either of theses machines? I am still comparing.

I found the Brother with reviews on Amazon in several places:

Even though I don't have either of the mentioned machines, think I would go with the Brother. Everyone in my quilt guild says that the Brother is a little workhorse. I personally have (2) Vikings (1 is 5 yrs old, other is 1 yr). I inherited a Singer that was made in 1937. It basically sews to fast for me

I bought a Futura embroidery machine a few years ago and I would never do it again. It embroidered maybe a few dozen designs and then blew the bobbin case. A few more designs, another bobbin case. It spent a lot more time in the shop than it did actually embroidering.

My next embroidery machine is almost certain to be a Brother - probably that PE770 that you're looking at.

I have a houseful of vintage and antique Singers and I LOVE them, but it'll be a hot day in January before I buy another modern one. (And that goes for Vikings & Pfaffs, too - they're all one company, now.)

I absolutely love my Singer ce250. I just recentlytried out the xl400 and am very impressed with the ease of multihoop projects and the larger size. I plan on buying it this fall as my retirement gift to myself. So far I have not heard of any problems with them. The Brother is also a fine machine but it has a smaller embroidery field. The xl400 needs to be connected to a computer to do embroidery so if you don't have room for a laptop or computer in your sewing space then it wouldn't be a good choice. You will need to decide what you plan on doing with the machine and how much dealer service help may need and if there is one close to you that you would feel comfortable dealing with in order to make your choice.

Check out both machines at a dealer. test drive them. We had one to demo when I worked for a JoAnns. The darn thing never did work right. Vikings are a lot better machine, and more user friendly. Take a look at the Topaz series. A used Viking from a good dealer is better than a Singer any day.

I was searching for a machine for my daughter's birthday last month. Got a Brother XR-7700 from Cosco. It seems to be nice and has the quilting attachments, only thing it has a little buzz (rattle) when sewing really fast. You can go to Singer and Brother web sites and read reviews. I went to E-Bay, Amazon and read reviews there.Doesn't do embrodiery though.
