Machine Embroidery thread for Machine Applique?
So, I bought some beautiful colors for a baby quilt I'm soon to be making. Purchased some expensive to me $4.50 spools of Madeira embroidery thread. What I need is applique thread....can I use the embroidery thread for machine applique?
Ah, another senior moment... Sandy |
I have. I liked the color, so I used it. I was too dumb to know any better. The quilt has been through several washes and looks fine. Maybe the quilt was too dumb to know any different, too! :)

Whew, thank you Lisa.
|
Yes, I use it all the time for machine applique, I think it's much prettier than regular thread.
|
I do.. it works fine.. have a ball...

I use my embroidery thread (even the metallics) for applique, and
FMQ. I LOVE the sheen that it lends to the finished project. |
From the research I've done, the poly-sheen is better than the rayon. I'm just starting with a new machine. Found that Hancock Fabrics has 30% off a lot of the time. Plus age 55+ gets an additional 15% off on 1st and 3rd Wednesday.

You certainly can! It will make your appliqué just beautiful!
|
Its the same thread used for applique in an embroidery machine so I don't see why not

This quilt is appliquéd with mostly Madeira and one or two Superior Rainbow threads. I use embroidery thread most of the time for machine appliqué - I like the definition it gives.
|
Hi thank you I like it
|
I've used machine embroidery thread for applique, in fact, have been using it also for FMQ, absolutely love it for FMQ.
|
I always use embroidery thread for machine zig-zag applique. I use Isacord for FMQ as well because my machine loves it so much.
|
Isacord or any polyester thread works well. I would avoid Rayon. It used to be all we could get for shiny thread but the new polyesters are beautiful and work well.
|
I use whatever I like!

Thank you so much for your replies. I am off to applique and not embroider. And..... with my new pretty thread.
