Do you think DMC machine embroidery thread is strong enough for piecing?

Judy, I discussed this in a previous thread. You really do not want your thread to be stronger than your fabric. The reason is a split seam can be easily fixed, where a tear or break of your fabric is unrepairable.

I'm not concerned that it is too strong but not strong enough. DMC machine embroidery is 100% cotton thread but is very thin. When I compare breaking point by pulling on it to other thread brands that are sold for piecing it seems to break easier. My quilt store greatly reduced the number of colors of Mettler thread they carry. (I like to use thread that matches.)

You have a good point and I missed it. If you are using to piece something that will be quilted, there probably will be no problem. You maynot want to use thinner thread in garments or purses. I now remember a master of applique, who used the DMC thread. She had a collection of colors on a special rack in her livingroom next to her favorite chair. It had a quilted cover to keep the thread clean. She said the DMC would sink nicely into the applique making her stitches nearly invisible. Thanks for reminding me. I should look locally for my own collection as I am planning to begin a large applique project after the holidays.
