So in my quest to get "quilting" feet for my sewing machine I have come up with another beginner question.

So I understand the cocept of a walking foot. It help keep the quilt top "feed" at the same rate as the backing thus helping to prevent puckers on the back.

BUT in looking for a walking foot I have also found SID feet, but it looks like regular snap on foot(I have a snap foot machine).

I want both but am confused how is the SID foot different (other than that it has a guide to help you stay in the ditch) from a regular foot in terms of preventing puckering on the back.

HELP. Confused in MN again.

I know this probably won't help. But I use my walking foot to SID too. I have an open toe foot for SID and top stitching.

I have a darning foot I haven't even used it yet. One day I will experiment with that and FMQing.

I think the SID foot is good because it has the guide but you still have the slipping problem, I think if you go slow enough to see where your needle is going it's easy enought to SID with the walking foot.

the SID foot won't do much in the way of preventing puckers on the back...it operates just like a regular (non-walking) foot. The only advantage is the guide that helps you stay in the ditch. there are other feet out there that can help you do that without having to purchase an extra one...see Chasing Hawk's message above.

Hon if you look, they have feet for everything!! not that you really need them all.
i used my walking/quilting foot to put on binding recently.
i've got some feet i've never used too!

Thanks I think I will go with just the open toe walking foot to start.

After trying a SID foot, I found it to not work any better than my walking foot LOL but it does work great for other things :D:D:D
