Machine Quilting Unlimited magazine
Is it worth buying? I'm trying to get into fmq and want to get my hands on as much info as possible!

I subscribed for the past two years and enjoy it. Loads of eye candy and every issue has at least 2 or 3 instructional articles. It is for both LA quilters and those that quilt on sit downs (domestic and extended throat).
I am letting my subscription lapse though. While I enjoyed it for the two years I got it, I found that I probably couldn't get much more out of it any more. At least from an instructional point of view, it is still a great source of quilting eye candy. When I first started to pursue machine quilting seriously (I hand quilted before) I found these two books the most helpful and informative: https://www.amazon.com/Heirloom-Mach...rriet+hargrave They have used you can pick up for the price of shipping! And: https://www.amazon.com/Guide-Machine...iane+gaudynski Again I see used copies available on Amazon for just a few dollars. Edited to add both of these books focus on domestic sewing machine FMQ. I think these two books will help anyone just getting started in FMQ immensely. And there are hints and suggestions in these books for seasoned quilters as well. |
Guess I could try one issue and see whether I like it or not

Try looking at Leah Day's website. She has lots of free videos on FMQing. I took her online course called Building Blocks and really learned a ton about FM. The course cost the price of the book which has full size patterns to get you started and access to free videos for each pattern. This was the quilt that came out of the class. Don't laugh at the quilting, it was my first try at quilting a whole quilt myself.
