Machine recommendations

I want a new sewing machine. My first was a little Brother, inexpensive and basic. When i began quilting i got a Singer Ingenuity...another inexpensive machine. I've had it about 3 years. I like it and it's been reliable, but i'm ready for something a little more quilter friendly. Large extension table, drop in bobbin, some basic stitch selections and larger harp are my basic requirements. I don't want to spend more than $400. I've considered Janome Magnolia 7318 and Janome hd 1000. Any one have any recommendations? Singer has one they say is for quilting but the reviews are mixed. I will test drive before i buy but i need a place to start. Please help!

I have the $200 brother quilting machine and it's still one the basic side but love it. If it were me with your budget I would look for a gently used machine someone is selling with as many bells and whistles for the money!! I don't know anything Janome brand my dream is a Bernina. Good Luck!!!

If you want a larger harp, see if you can find a used Janome 6600. Everyone I know that has one loves it.

I just bought a used Janome 6600 last month and it's probably still a little out of the price range she mentioned. It's in great shape with all parts/attachments and I paid about $1000, which is roughly half off MCRP and $600 less than any locals shops would sell a new machine. I've never seen one for less around here.

(And boy do I love it!)

I own three machines all by BROTHER ...a sewing machine, an embroidery machine and I recently bought a quilting machine. I love them all and have had no trouble with them I've bought each from the Allbrands site below. They delivery FAST and their prices are great and they offer a variety of brands. FYI

I wouldn't put the large extension table under the 'needs' column as you can always have one made later. We have a great plastics company here that will make yours to fit. Also, at one of our mountain retreat sites there is someone who will make whatever you want, he just needs to know which machine it is for. I just ordered his 'easy release' feet to go with my ex. table as the screwing of the existing legs was getting to hard for me to do.

Several different sites also sell them, but that usually costs more.

Get the machine with the machine features you want first. Just make sure you can BOND with that machine and have local support.
