It is not working. Sounds like it is working but nothing moves inside.

I have the same problem occasionally. I have found that I can fix it myself by cleaning out the bobbin area. I don't mean just the bobbin case itself, but actually taking out the bobbin, the bobbin race, and opening up that area of the machine so I can get out any and all small pieces of thread/lint, etc., that is clogging the machine. Sometimes the problem is thread getting under the threadcutter and jamming it. Easy fix.

Can you send me the name of your repairman? I can't even walk into the store for less than $35. Annual maintenance on my old mechanical machine was $120. I am afraid to take my new computerized machine in. It will probably be twice that.

nawnee_00 03-16-2011 06:11 AM

Just got my serger back from being serviced(cleaned, oiled, and adjusted) and it was $65.00.

jenniferlrn 03-16-2011 06:14 AM

Well since I am here I am going to guess at least 135.00. Not really sure as my Berninia doesn't have an automatic thread cutter and never had to have it fixed. But to have my machine serviced here it is at least 69.00 or maybe more now. Hope it really isn't that much though. Jennifer

nwm50 03-16-2011 06:16 AM

guessing here at 58.00............hmmmm

Best of luck!

I agree in the area of $100. I have a broken machine right now and the estimates Iam getting start at $100 just to look at it not including have to change the part. It's a plastic part probably made in China for a .05 cents and they want to charge 50.

Dianne1 03-16-2011 06:58 AM

Just have a bad feeling $130. Because of the compyers in them.

Lady Diana 03-16-2011 07:06 AM

I would guess $93 for parts and labor.
$40 if he finds only lint.
I hope that it is nothing if he finds lint, becuase he wants you as a future customer. We can only hope.
Best wishes.
PS I bought a Janome 3160 with thread cutter for class and back up in case my 6600 gets sick.
Diana

Mamia 03-16-2011 07:45 AM

My guess is $38.28

rdorminy 03-16-2011 07:50 AM

Do we get a prize for the correct cost or repair? LOL I have no clue what it would cost.

My machine, a Janome 6500 has never had a problem until now. I am really missing it! My hubby took it with him went he went for meetings in the city. It has been gone for 3 hours.

Here is the skinny! They will probably charge at least $35 to look at it and maybe more. They will apply that to the charge for parts and labor required to fix it, which will probably be heaven only knows how much, but it won't matter because you've got a great machine and if it can be repaired, you will get it repaired because you want it back!

I'm going to guess $112 will get her home and into your sewing room. froggyintexas

wilma A 03-16-2011 08:08 AM

probley 65.00 for service call and 5.00 to 10.00 for the blade so at least 75.00 total

phaedra 03-16-2011 08:36 AM

Depending on the brand of machine anywher between $35.00 and $60.00 dollars. There is usually a 10 to 20% markup, depending on the shop.

MS quilter 03-16-2011 08:47 AM

I guess 100.00

Jere 03-16-2011 08:52 AM

I think you pay a higher price in Canada for everything but I have a Janome 6500 as well and I have had to have it in the shop a couple of times and it is still causing problems. One shop was to call me back after they got in touch with the factory. Never heard a word. I didn't have to pay on that one. Another guy looked at it and cleaned it up-lots of lint and thread in the mechanism. The problem was that after you took your foot off the foot pedal it woul continue to run. Well it is doing it again and I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I do have a Jem Gold back up so I am not totally without a machine.

quilterguy27 03-16-2011 09:09 AM

My guess is $95. No matter what machine or what's wrong with it, my repair guy starts out at $95. From my FW to my computerized machine it always starts out at $95 and goes up from there.

craftymatt2 03-16-2011 09:42 AM

I just Got mine back, for a clean and check it was 129.95. So my guess would be $99.95.

lee-meadows13749 03-16-2011 09:57 AM

I'm going to say 128.50. hope it is cheaper for you though.

jdeery 03-16-2011 10:11 AM

I think it will be $75.00 because they won't stop there.

Dianne1 03-16-2011 12:25 PM

What is yhis a new game"The Quilters Price Is Right? HeHE

sammy89 03-16-2011 12:59 PM

I had that problem with mine and found out I put the wrong brand of needle in the machine, that was an easy fix

bettysew 03-16-2011 01:57 PM

Our local shop charges $79.95 just to look at a machine.

Shemjo 03-16-2011 02:41 PM

Just picked my machine up becasue the power went off. Wrong fuse! Since I have only taken it to authorized Janome service shops, I wonder who did it! That cost $35.00 for that and recalbrating my screen. It was in the shop in December for the recalibration and that cost $70.00. The prices are all over the place, so I wish wish you well. I have no idea what your repair will run.

chuckbere15 03-16-2011 03:27 PM

90 for the repair.

roxie623 03-16-2011 03:36 PM

I guess I am lucky because my repairs sre free via my hubby. It amazes me how cheap the parts and how expensive labor is. Makes you want to take a sewing machine repair class.

Shemjo 03-16-2011 03:46 PM

If you have a mechanical machine (not electronic) we have the virtual vintage sewing machine shop here on this board to learn how to service your own machines. Billy and helpers can show you how to take your machine totally apart and re-assemble it so it is all oiled and ready to sew! Check it out on the main page at the very bottom. There is so much we can do ourselves on the older vintage machines.

FranCFries 03-16-2011 04:00 PM

Don't like to be a kill joy, but I think it will be about $100.00. Used to know a lady who had the same thing go wrong, don't remember what she was given for a price. But she didn't get it fixed. Good luck and I hope I am WAY OFF and it's only $10.00. Holding a good thought for you

judytudy 03-16-2011 04:07 PM

Did you know if you ran the thread down the needle's groove it will go right in the needle's hole if the thread has a clean cut?

jitkaau 03-16-2011 04:38 PM

Depends on your repair guy. My friend was quoted $500 to repair a machine, and told she would be better off replacing it with a new one.I took it to my repair guy and he charged $40 to clean out the lint and it works perfectly...

suesembroidery 03-16-2011 05:39 PM

I paid $150 five years ago for mine with it being cleaned too.

QuickStitch 03-16-2011 05:59 PM

I'm guessing around $175 for service and parts. I do hope that it isn't this much though. Best of luck.

fontmomma 03-16-2011 06:01 PM

I've seen one in my supply catalog for around $20 + shipping. This is a side cutter which can be attached to your machine. In fact, I have one. This makes you project look like it has been sergered. Is that what you need?

Fancy Nancy 03-16-2011 06:07 PM

$83.00

galvestonangel 03-16-2011 06:29 PM

If it is lint about $29, if it involves parts.labor $59.00

Quilting Nana 03-16-2011 06:31 PM

I am gurdding $83.

Sunflower Girl 03-16-2011 06:34 PM

89.99 just to clean and oil is what they charge around here. So I would guess $115.

burnsk 03-16-2011 08:18 PM

Hmmm - Is $80 taken? (first choice)
or $90 is second choice.

butterflywing 03-16-2011 08:23 PM

i never heard of anything costing less than $100.00, so i say $125.00 and at least one week. i hope i'm wrong on both.

what's my prize? blue please.

nanquilt 03-16-2011 08:26 PM

My guess is around $120. That would be correct in this region.
