I bought a Pfaff Passport machine when they first came out. The straight stitch was slanted and the salesman/ mechanic said that's how the stitch is. A year later when I took it in, whatever they did corrected the stitch!

I have a 1956 singer 99K that I swear sews the absolute most wonderful straight stitch I've ever accomplished. Most of the time I sew on my $5,000 Viking, but if I'm doing a Bargello or lone star style quilt where straight, accurate is a must I get that little singer out. It was the best $20 I've ever spent.

I agree with everyone on here, you won't find a new machine that will compare stitches to a vintage machine, the vintage machine will win every time.

Not necessarily my brother Dreamweaver I felt stitched nicer than a bernina 550qe, sometimes I feel my cheap Walmart brother makes a straighter stitch than my dreamweaver. Thread can also play a role in the appearance of the stitch

I've never seen a ZZ machine that didn't have a tiny wiggle in its line of stitching. Not noticeable, but there if you look for it. SS only machines don't have it. My newest machine is a 1973 model (ZZ), but I have observed the stitching of friends' newer machines. My 301s (SS) sew nice and straight, but I think they are outclassed by the 15 clone (SS).

The biggest thing I notice is when the tension is off. I can't say that any of my machines is the best. I love them all, for different reasons, but they all sew a nice stitch. The best stitch? Probably my Bernina. It's always consistent. I've had zero trouble with that machine and it's my second oldest ( I feel like I'm talking about my kids now haha)

My two SS only machines make nice looking stitches.

It may not totally correct the wobble but try using a single hole template. Of course, you've got to remember to change it back if doing anything other than straight stitch. If you don't, it will remind you that you need a new needle!!

I agree. I have a lot of machines but those vintage ones give a good stitch.

I have a Kenmore from the 70's and it still sews perfect straight stitches, as well as all the fancy stitches included. Some things just don't need to be new to be good.
