Sewing Binding on by machine, I am doing this today and I am finding it very difficult. The quilt is so heavy for me to manipulate and I have decided it is much easier to hand sew it on the back side. At least for me, it is much neater. I have not finished it yet I had to give my arms a break. Just wanted to vent. I do not like doing this.

i understand completely= i hate doing the binding by machine- it is so much more difficult for me- to me it is a joy to sit on the couch with a new quilt draped across my lap, stitching the binding into place- and as time has gone by i have really become quite fast at it...relatively speaking.

I just use a big table and don't mind. I dislike the hand sewing. Each to his/her own, as long as we get those quilts finished. :)

I prefer machine sewing my binding. Do not like hand sewing at all.

I HATE hand sewing but I think it looks so much nicer for the binding. I'm always torn on what to do.

i pin in the seam (vertically) catching the binding on the back and remove one pin or two and sew. then remove and sew. i do this as i go along, so i adjust the quilt all the time and don't notice any dragging if it is large.

I actually enjoy hand sewing the binding to the back using the ladder stitch and I love the look of it when it's done :D

I do both depending on my mood and how much more time I want to spend. I do like sitting and doing the hand work but also love doing a decorative stitch via machine. I put the binding on the back first and then machine stitch on the front using a decorative stitch so the back "kinda" lines up.

I usually machine sew my bindings on the front of the quilt then hand stitich the back. I find it relaxing and the stitches don't show for a nice look.

Set your ironing board to the left of your machine and lower it to the height of your sewing table to use to support the weight of the quilt. No handsewing here.
