Machine stitched Cathedral Stars - Shelly Swanland
1 Attachment(s)
I bought 'Machine Stitched Cathedral Stars' by Shelley Swanland at our local library sale because the pictures were just gorgeous. However, I am finding the directions a little tough to follow and there are not enough pictures of the actual techniques. Knowing how to make a 10 minute block helped a lot, but putting the pieces together is bewildering. I was also trying to figure out if there is a way to avoid the inset squares on each corner (I HATE insets).
I attached a picture of a couple of semi finished blocks in hopes that someone will recognize them and share their expertise... |
Bonnie Hunter has a cathedral stars pattern in her free patterns. She just posted pictures from a workshop she did on this in her blog (quiltville) yesterday. Maybe her pattern will help you.

I don't have any advice as this is new to me, but just wanted to say I really like your colour scheme.

I haven't done a Cathedral windows yet, but have thought about it - a lot, and this version is new to me. For yours my easy way would be to make the background block a 9patch (no set-in pieces). Cut your green and pink fabrics the same size, stitch together RSF all round the edge. Cut a slit in the green, enough to turn inside out, press. Then pin in place on the block, fold the edges and stitch down.
