My sewing desk faces an large east window(5'x4'), against the wall and under the window. I much prefer it against the wall and although I have a large separate sewing room, I have other sewing/quilting related "stuff" in the center of the room and along all the sides of the room. I have a total of 3 of the large windows and 2 smaller ones (48"x48") and 6-4' long LED lights with 2 strips in each.

Mine is under a window against the wall. It butts up into a L shape with my ironing table which is about the same height . My cutting table is also up against a wall. I'm pretty sure if it weren't, a lot (more) things would fall of it. This arrangement works for me .

My machine table is 18" away from the wall forming a "T" to the wall. 2 reasons: Best view out the window and floor heat/AC vent not covered.

I have a solution for that one. Mr. "now I'm retired with no real plan" used to soundlessly materialize in front of me when I was cutting, and I'd jump a foot in the air. This was Totally Unacceptable.

The solution was a bell from Staples (the kind where you tap to "ring bell for service.") It can be heard above the washer and dryer, too.

sewing machine is "against" the wall--actually it sits about 6 " from wall so when I string piece it flows off the table and out of the way. My cutting table is in the center of the room, that way I move when I cut, not the fabric.

I float my sewing tables...and cutting table in the center of the rm. I have two gidget tables side by side with diff machines in each. I have tables in front of each and on each side ...I formed a U. All are in front of a set of windows but I leave abt 4 ft so I can open windows or use the other tables for cutting w/GO or other things. My chairs are on wheels so all I have to do is push those to wherever I'm working.

I have one against a wall for FMQ ( keeps the quilt from falling off ) and my main one is in the middle of the room. Works for me.

I have two sewing stations back to back and plan to add a third one perpendicular. I had outlets installed in the floors (and in the ceiling) when we designed the sewing studio...thanks to many suggestions here on the QB. [ATTACH=CONFIG]618773[/ATTACH]

Like some others, my machines (daily driver and sitdown lomgarm) “float” in the middle of the room with another table for cutting and sewing added to make a little “island”.

What i have done about cords... i have attached two surge suppressor/power strips to the table legs of the “daily driver” which allows me to plug my sitdown longarm and the other machine on separate wall outlets. Since there are essentially only two cords to worry about on the floor i tuck each one of those underneath the chairmats (my floor is carpeted and even though the cords are heavy duty there isnt undue pressure on the cords). Master Electrician son gave everything a thumbs up. i initially thought about getting the item suggested by Quiltinnan, but sonny boy didnt think it was needed in my situation because i basically have just the 10” ends of two cords to deal with where they plug into the wall. I was good with that if he was. I dont have any floor outlets.

I do have my separate ironing station and larger cutting tables placed against the wall on opposite sides of the room - again taking advantage of separate wall outlets for each.

Stitchnripper - i so hear you about unannounced visitors! LOL! While i wasnt overly worried about the situation - its still nice to know when someone enters my Happy Place! DH doesnt trespass much since we had the room painted lilac - my mighty-hunter-in-camouflage husband tells me that just seeing the color makes him itch - whatever! Just the same its nice to know if i have “company”... i laugh about this because my family is from a major, very populated city and when we went to a restaurant my Dad always had to be the one sitting with his back to the wall within sight distance of the door so he could assess the situation! He laughed about it but still that was his habit and nobody challenged it and nothing ever happened so i guess it worked. I live totally rural these days but its funny how some habits stick with you - yep, i gotta see the door! LOL!

Anyway, some of you have already seen this but if you havent here is my setup.

I have the large Arrow sewing table and it floats at the end of my sewing room because I don't like looking at a wall. I like looking at all my sewing room at one time. It's longer then wider. I have my design wall on the wall behind my sewing chair.
