I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good quality, if not overly expensive, sewing machine thread.

I have a C6000i Brothers Sewing machine, and the reviews on the machine said to use good quality thread.

I've not used a sewing machine in almost ten years... (I was in middle school at the time).

Please and thank you!

Try www.connectingthreads.com Great thread at a reasonable price.

BellaBoo 04-02-2010 05:20 AM

I like Connecting Threads. I have not found any problem with their thread and I have used every brand out there. The only thread I've had trouble with is King Tut. It just won't get along with my machine.

For piecing I use Mettler (100% cotton, silk finish) right now but am trying out Masterpiece by Superior Threads as soon as it comes in the mail. For my bobbin I use Bottom Line, by ST's as well. For quilting I've used the Mettler thread I used for piecing but then I started using King Tut and love it's thicker weight. The quilting stands out more and I love all the varigated color choices King Tut has. My machine didn't have any trouble with it.

Although I used to use Mettler, I'm now using Aurifil. It's a bit finer. For whatever reason my Bernina does not like Masterpiece :( Haven't tried it yet in the Janome, hopefully it'll be better there as I have the sampler pack from Superior Threads that I'd like to use!

I bought one spool of Aurifil and am in LOVE with this stuff!! You can buy it really reasonable at: Jhittlesewing.com

I also have a Brother C6000i, and I use Connecting Threads Essential Threads. I have also used the Coats & Clarks machine quilting thread that I can buy at local stores, but the C&C turns out to be a lot more expensive than the Essential Threads and doesn't seem to hold up nearly as well.

My Bernina chokes on Mettler so I have switched to Aurifil exclusively. I love it for everything! A little bit pricey, but the spools last forever.

Whatever you do, don't use that 3 for $1.00 stuff...try Guttermann, it is reasonable, and Joann's carries it. Buy it when it's 50% off and you are getting a steal.

I have that machine too, and it gets along fine with Coats & Clark. Second the suggestion to not use really cheap thread, though. I ran into major tension problems when I made that mistake. See my DH's Facebook album at http://tinyurl.com/ThreadQuality for further info, including pictures of several different threads as seen under a microscope.

I'm going to order some thread from Connecting Threads... I have a spool of Guterman and I may get another spool or two of that... I have to make sure that I do two of each color, since I have to make my bobins to! Thank you!

I love Connecting Threads thread. It is a good quality and is very reasonably priced. Check them out. My Pfaff loves it.

Superior Threads has a great website--they sell all kinds of threads and they have a great video on what kind of thread to use and why. Of course they're selling thread but I was impressed and learned a lot by watching the video.

I recommend Aurafil or Superior Threads' Masterpiece for piecing. These are two great threads. There is now fuzz on these threads to add to the lint build up in the machine, etc. These threads may be a bit on the expensive side but they last a long time and are well worth the cost. The Superior Threads website is an excellent place to learn about which thread to use where. Hope this helps.
Have a great day.

I have 2 of those machines, and I mostly use the Coats&Clark Dual Duty thread in them. Have no problems with it. I do keep them clean underneath the footplates.

Gutermann or Sulky. Stock up on them when on sale @ Joann's.

Gwyn 04-03-2010 03:18 PM

Don't use guterman. Many have tried it and it balls up in the machine or breaks. Gutterman is a very expensive thread and works really well in most machines, but take it from one who has the same machine, use connectingthreads or plain old coats and clarks. Leave the really expensive stuff for people who have super expensive and talented machines like Pfaff. Brother does best with the regular stuff.

I agree Guttermann's is the best quilting thread out there and you can get it at JoAnn's as well as quilt shops.

Thats Okay Penny!

I vote for Connecting Threads too. I just bought one of their neutral packages to try it out and will definitely go back and buy more. Especially the black I go through a LOT of black. Can't beat the price.

damaquilts 04-04-2010 04:37 AM

Oh I guess I should say I have a Brother QC1000.

mcdaniel023 04-04-2010 05:00 AM

Sent you a PM with some information. My Brother loves the thread from Connecting Threads.

marla 04-04-2010 11:51 AM

Doesn't anyone use YLI?

craftybear 04-04-2010 01:25 PM

Hi I see a lot of you ladies have the brother C6000i.I have one also and love it but sometimes my bobbins don't wind up evenly and I have to rewind them. Does anyone have this problem. I also use Coats and Clark thread but mostly connecting threads, great selection of colors and large rolls.

tooMuchFabric 04-06-2010 10:01 PM

Can't say I've had any trouble with loose-winding bobbins, no. Not so far anyway!

Joyce Ann 04-07-2010 06:02 AM

too much fabric Thanks for you answer about bobbins Joyce Ann

tooMuchFabric 04-07-2010 08:33 PM

You know, now that I'm remembering, one of my 6000is got its chrome metal thread guide, that sits up over where you run the thread down through the machine, bent a little bit when one of the kids bumped it in some rowdy play. (They don't get to visit me often, or they would not be actding like that indoors!!)

Anyway, the little round bobbin thread guide on top was tilted, and the bobbins filled wonky. Yes.
I took it to the machine guy and had it straightened back up, and no more trouble with the bobbins filling tight and even.

How funny not to remember that.
I guess age does filter out our memories!
Sigh.

Joyce Ann 04-09-2010 06:05 AM

Thanks for the info. I will check that out.
