machines with fully adjustable serpentine stitch
I'm researching my upcoming quilting machine purchase and definitely want the fully adjustable serpentine stitch for sewing over the ditch on my charity quilts. I know this is available on the Janome 8200 and 8900. Are there other large bed machines that have this?

Bernina has one of the nicest serpentine stitch on the market.
My Sapphire 870Q is adjustable.
I have it on my Baby Lock Aria.
The Babylock Destiny has a fully adjustable serpentine stitch... sure wish I had one of those
I don't know about those models but my Janome 6600 does not have a built in serpentine stitch. At least not a nice one-the one it has is really narrow and small. I have one programmed in though, which I guess makes it fully customizable but I'd prefer a better built in one. It's my favorite stitch for sewing over the ditch.

My Husqvarna 875Q has a very nice adjustable serpentine stitch. I LOVE this machine!!!!!
I have a Viking 500 ( about 20 years old) it has this stitch , adjustable in width and length . I use that stitch ALOT!
my dreamweaver has it

The Bernina 330 has a very nice fully adjustable serpentine stitch, and the price is around $850 to $900. Plus, there's a coupon for $50 off between Nov 20 and December 2 (I think).
Juki F600 has it. I paid $1000
I have the brother CS6000i which has an adjustable serpentine stitch. I use it quite often instead of SITD.

I have three machines that do decorative stitches, what does the serpinetine stitch look like? Is it the one that looks like a lightening bolt and is very tight zig zag?
My Brother EX660 has it too. Not as expensive as the Janome's, etc. but the stitch is adjustable. I use it for charity quilts too.

I saw this post yesterday (while at work😜) and at the time I didn't know anything about this stitch. Wow! It's really pretty! I just got a Babylock Crescendo so the first thing I did yesterday when I got home was see if it had this stitch and it does! I love it! That stitch looks fabulous! I can't wait to use it on a project! 😀

I hate to appear stupid, but I do not know what a serpentine stitch is. Please, will someone explain this stitch to me????
Karen Mc you're not stupid! I didn't know what it was either. Just do an online search for serpentine stitch quilting and you will find plenty of examples.
My Sapphire 960Q has that stitch and so many other pretty quilting stitches. I use most of them in quilting one thing or another. Big bed and lots of bells and whistles. $2400. Viking

I have a stupid question too. ;) What is the difference between fully adjustable serpentine and a "regular" serpentine? I have a Janome 6600 and it has a serpentine. Why would you want it adjusted?

Viking and Pfaff machines have an adjustable serpentine stitch. I have the Pfaff Quilt Expression 4.2, has the 10" throat, built in walking foot(IDT). This is the machine I use for quilting and piecing.

The way I did it was using the instructions on the yahoo site. It turned out way different than the original stitch (I can do a comparison tomorrow).
I googled it to see which stitch you meant, i never thought of using this stitch for binding before. I am definitely going to try it out. Don't you just love when someone's question opens your eyes to all kinds of new possibilities

Here is the comparison. The one on the right is the built in serpentine on the 6600 with a stitch width of 7. Default is 5 I think, and the length can't be made any bigger. The one on the left is the programmed serpentine using mode 2, stitch 14, with stitch width and length adjustments.
Basically you are programming multiple stitches with every stitch being the same stitch number, but with a different stitch width. Stitch lengths stay the same. |
I use this stitch all the time on Bernina ..........I just love it for quilting . Cathy

Wow gale! Thanks for posting the sample. I need to check the files on the yahoo group and use that stitch more. It's gorgeous!!
The one I used is in the third column on the chart in the instructions.
