Machines - what is the difference?
 

I see a lot of people using a Baby Lock machine. What is the difference between that and a regular quilting machine?

Never mind... answered my own question. Looked for a way to delete this but couldn't find one. :-(

Baby Lock is a brand of sewing machine, as is Brother, Pfaff, Bernina, etc.

"Quilting machine" is really an indeterminate term; some people quilt on domestic sewing machines, others quilt on frames with a midarm or longarm machine made specifically for frame quilting.

We all have our favourite machines. Personally I like them all and find the differences are in the bells and whistles.

:) interesting point -- quilters use whatever works best -- a lot like the bells and whistles and others prefer a simpler machine -- I keep thinking I would like a machine with needle down, thread cut, and lots of fancy stitches -- then I hear of the woes of computer machines and the maintenance, and as long as my 1990 somewhat basic Singer keeps working, I will not buy another machine -- mine needs no oiling and just a gentle clean-out of the drop-in bobbin area from time to time -- buying a new one would take a lot of research and trying them out and consideration of price vs what I want or need-- :shock:

I hated my babylock sewing machine and serger but it was a long time ago when I had them. Probably about 15 yrs. Maybe they've improved but I'll never go back.

Tried a midarm with a frame for 1 quilt. Hated the space restrictions. Loved quilting. Bought APQS Millenium and added computerized Intelliquilter. I've never been sorry. It'll last me the rest of my life.
