I keep all my templates and speciality rulers in hanging files in a portable file box. And most importantly, the INSTRUCTIONS for these rulers.

Relax! You don't need a ruler! Especially if you are going to make many of the same colors combination. Look up the No Waste Method:
http://www.patchpieces.com/files/flyinggeese.pdf One tip: Where it says to add 7/8" most of us add 1" and then trim. Good luck!! http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...e-t247453.html One comment here - I increased the size of Fabric B (the color that eventually turns into the corners) to one inch larger (rather than 7/8 as it says in the directions). This gives you a little more fabric to make sure you can trim the top to a nice 1/4 inch seam. Oh - and your rulers? you will find them if you purchase new ones - :p |
Great tips and advice

Onward in my quest to find the speciality rulers Judy in Phx, AZ |
I do the same thing myself, but with other household stuff. I use machinist toolboxes to store EVERYTHING except fabric. My rulers, my threads (keeps them out of the sunlight!), parts for my longarm, parts and accessories for my DSM, notions like zippers and purse findings, and so on.
Now, if I could only get my fabric that organized, I'd be in great shape! I highly recommend a trip to Harbor Freight (with coupon and sales flyer in hand) to get a big toolbox. I actually have THREE - and they are full!!! |

My filing system is excellent, it's my retrieval system that is poor.
I really like the idea of using a portable file to sort things into -- just need to find a place to put it. |
