MadQuilter's Scrappy 1st block

I wanted to see what the 2X5 inch rectangles would look like sewn into a block. I do intend to put the quilt top together in rows but I think I will make blocks at my leisure for later assembly. I find when working on a scrap quilt, I end up searching for more scraps to finish. If I sew the top as I go, the new additions look obvious at the end. The strips sewn into a block works out to a perfect 8X8 size which is a plus! I am not keeping the cut off triangles.

I saw this pattern in a quilt magazine I recently pickup for free at our senior group. Will have to take a closer look at it. It was done with plaids. Thanks for the post Tartan

Here's an inprogress photo of a completed quilt with a similar pattern. It's flannel-front and back with Warm and White batting. DH's favorite.

That's a great block to use up scraps. Love it

Do you have a pattern to use up the little triangles? I have lots of them.

In this size the triangles sewn into a square come out at 1 inch. I am putting them in the garbage. For the bigger size (3X9) half square triangles I would save them for the Split 9 Patch design free pattern off Bonnie Hunter's site.

It is looking really good Tartan. Some where on here I saw a pattern explained but I can't remember where! Sorry donnajean.

So......you are sewing together a lite/dark 2x5 strip....like you would joining binding strips...to get the diagonal seam? Three with dark to left, two with lite to left...then sewing 5 alternately beginning with left dark to make the 8x8 block? I like the idea of doing it in blocks.....
