Magazine subscriptions for a BEGINNER
I live in a rural area and haven't been able to scope out quilt magazines, but did note that Clotilde has 50% off an annual subscription to one at this time. Our library carries FP, which is beyond my present skill level.
Your suggestions for those subscriptions that would be suitable for beginning machine piecing would be very much appreciated. |
McCall's, FP and others have magazines called Easy Quilts that you can subscribe to. Go to their websites, they will have them listed.

If you join Quilters' Club of America, you get access to hundreds of instructional videos, a 10% off VIP card for Joann Fabrics, a discussion board and a print AND digital subscription to Easy Quilts magazine. It's only $30-40/year for membership and the videos alone are worth that - there is a ton of instruction suited for beginners and a lot more to grow along with you. Their web site is not as easy to navigate as it should be, but the value is definitely there. Many years' worth of Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting, Eleanor Burns, Quilting from the Heartland and other series are available to you, 24/7.
The Easy Quilts subscription is available digitally so that if you find a pattern or template or instructions you want to print, you can just print from your computer. No scanning the print edition. :) |
I'm a beginner as well and I buy Fons and Porter because they do tend to have some beginner quilts, and my DH got me a subscription for McCall's which I love and The Quilter Magazine which also has some great ideas. I also take out patterns & put them in a binder of quilts that are intermediate or advanced that I would like to try and do at some point in the future.

My all time FAVORITE magazine is Quilter's World, it was the
first subscription I bought and continue to keep it going. I have BOTH print and digital versions. With the digital version you get access to ALL the issues archives from Feb 2006 to current. Website is at: http://www.quiltersworld.com/ Easy Quilts is another good magazine for beginners. The Quilter's Club of America (QCA) is truly AWESOME annual membership is $29.95. For more information you can visit the website at: http://www.quiltersclubofamerica.com/ I am also a member of the American Quilter's Society (AQS) annual membership $25. http://www.americanquilter.com/ |

With the QCA subscription how long do you have access to the patterns & videos? Can you download them or save them? I've been debating on whether it's worth the $30 for the yr. Also has anyone ever heard of Pam Bono Designs? They also have something pretty similar with an all access to patterns, etc - I don't like to subscribe to things unless I've got good feedback from others

You're paying for a year's access at a time. (I think there are two and three-year options, as well.) |
QCA is really very good and you have a lot of access. When you join you also get the QNN TV for free with your QCA subscription. They also give you The Easy Quilts and they have some nice easy quilts to do plus you can get a lot of info and they also have a blog and they help you a lot. Good Luck. Sue
